Runny eyes and crusty nose

Hi, I have a 5 1/2 month old siamese kitten and she has runny eyes sometimes and a little crust that is in her nose. It is not a lot, just enough to where I need to clean her nose and eyes once a week. I told my vet about it and he did not say much about it. I was wondering if any of you have had the same problems?? Thanks!

I did have that issue when Charcoal was a baby. He had a URI (upper respiratory infection). You may want to bring it up to the vet again and have it checked out.

I have too second that! When both our Kitties came home they had It. It's just a cat cold, but it can get worse. Ask you vet for "CLAVAMAX" it's a liquid form of amoxicllin. It comes with an eye dropper. This is the best way to give your cat"s med's. Pills can be very........ discouraging to the person giving the pill. It's about a 12 or 14 day treatment. and it works.

Good luck and would love to see pics of your kitty

It does sound like the beginning of an URI ... but if it doesn't get worse, it could also just be allergies! If the discharge gets thicker, and kitty is sneezing alot ... go to the vet! Good luck!

Sophia has had this ever since I got her at 6 weeks old. It has not gotten any worse but it is still there and I have to clean her eyes and nose once a week. So you think it is allergies? I do notice when she is around something that has a strong smell, her eyes tend to water more.

It could be allergies, but it could also be a "chronic" respiratory infection.

Chronic respitory infection? Could that be really bad? Has anyone else had this problem?

Sorry. I didn't want to alarm you - it's not bad. Some cats that have been infected with the feline herpes virus tend to exhibit mild "cold" symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, conjunctivitis) from time to time when they're stressed. Usually no treatment is necessary, and the symptoms disappear within 2 or 3 days.

Here's a link re herpes and conjunctivitis, which also mentions the "chronic" respiratory infection:http://www.marvistavet.com/html/herp...nctivitis.html
