Halter training

Not sure if this should be here or in Behavior.

How do you train a cat for a halter? When we were training Meow, we put her halter on for a while each day, and she ended up getting used to it. She wasn't very keen on the leash, though.

I'm going to try to halter train Rowan, because he has no problem sticking next to me while we're outside, but is there anything to it besides just getting him used to wearing the halter?

Actually, I meant harness, not halter. I really should have gotten myself to sleep earlier last night.

Start by using it inside. you dont want to find out the cat is going to flip out when you are outside.

That's what we did with Bijou. We put it on him for a little several times each day - same with Mika. They won't like it much at first but now they both sit and wait for us to put it on in front of the door.

Start when the cat is young and she or he will just think it is a normal routine. My YY loves the harness - and she walks on a leash or in her stroller, lol - . I also think you can train an adult cat but patiently trying it on them for a few minutes each day INDOORS, increasing the time period each day. When you are confident they will be fine outside, take them for a walk - or do you have just the one?
