I've seen prices here from $10 per cat to $350+ per cat, and I am curious how high/low it gets depending on areas of the us and the world. Tell where you are, and how much it cost. If you know the prices of more than one vet, feel free to list them all. Also, tell if it was a discount or full price.

KY.

Vet one: $35 ea, sex unimportant.

Vet two: $60 for girls, $40 for boys.

From my vet in Porirua City, NZ

(approx)

Spay - NZ$50
Neuter - NZ$40

That converts to

Spay - US$34.32
Neuter- US$27.45

At the SPCA they charge about half that

Colorado, Denver-Metro area.

Male: $135 almost 6 years ago.
Female: $200 (thereabouts)

Add in the pre-surgery testing, laser option for spay, and anything else and add at least $100. Ophelia's spay was over $300 all told (laser option, she was in heat (she wasn't showing signs of heat, but they said she was when they got in there), and pre-testing. Vaccinations were done at another appointment so those charges were not included.)

There are low-cost S/N options but you either have to live in the right area, make a certain (low) amount of money, or both to qualify.

Cool. Out of curiosity...a trend that i see here in the US is that spays cost more than neuters. why is it the other way around in nz?

It's around $60 from what I remember. The last neutering job I paid for was 1998 (Zorro) and Hammie was already fixed when I adopted him.

The last Spay I paid for was around $60.

I'm in Kentucky!

If you adopt from the Humane Society, they will spay/neuter the pet & give all the first round of shots, for a donation of $60 or more if you want to donate more. That what Hammie was.

I started calling around when I asked my regular vet's office their neuter prices. Ordinarily it wouldn't have been too terribly much of an issue, but I wanted to have them both done at once. $107 JUST for the surgery/anesthetic --- pain meds, bloodwork, etc., was "extra." That would probably have been close to $300 for the two of them! I was so shocked I called back later to confirm that I hadn't been given spay prices instead.

I found that it varied widely with about $40 or so being the bottom and that $107 being the top. I finally checked out a "cats only" vet I'd never used and she charged $75 including bloodwork and pain med. I figure it was about half what I'd've been paying at what I'm now referring to as my "dog" vet LOL. More than happy, and very happy to have a cats only (in fact that's the name of the clinic is Cats Only
...) vet within a reasonable distance even though she's a 15-20 minute drive as opposed to a 5 minute drive.

We have fixed minimum/maximum prices here. For the surgery alone you pay:
$18 - $54 for a male
$54 - $162 for a female
at the current exchange rate.

Well when I took Harley in and asked them about it-they just told me how much it would be to have him fixed and declawed at the same time, and that was $150....but we are NOT getting him declawed (yay!
) so I'm not sure how much just the fixing is...I will find out soon, he gets fixed in about a month!

I wouldn't think it would be too spendy tho, but who knows-its worth it!

Two of my cats came to me spayed, so I've only had to do one. It cost me just over $200 here in Kansas City. I understand there are vets who do the surgery for less, but the vet I had already settled on charged $160 plus $55 for blood work.

I spent way less that that. I believe my vet charged $70 for the surgery. Now I believe there was an added cost for leaving the cats over night and for the shots they got around the same time. I've been going to the same vet for years though and didn't shop around.

So for the two boys $140. This reminds me though I really need to get the boys back to the vet's for their booster shots.

We can buy vouchers from our Humane Society to have neuters for $35, and I think that spays are $45. Then we take the voucher to one of the vets who does the spays (there's a huge vet hospital here for the college, so very few vets actually bother to compete). I think that one of the vets doesn't charge anything extra, but one charges for bloodwork, and the other for the anesthetic. I don't know how much extra they charge for those.

Wow!! There are some extreme prices here!! Low and high!!

In Oz, its around $100 (AU) ($74US) for a neuter and $160 (AU) ($118US) for a spay.

I think we are getting ripped off!! And that doesn't include pre-op bloods. Just the operation and anaesthetics.
