We are desparate for answers. We have three cats. One is a year + and the other two are sisters both 6 + months. We wormed the kittens when we brought them home and discovered this summer one of them had worms again. She was throwing them up in her food. We took her to the vet and that night she pooped a ton of dead worms (sorry about being graffic). We just saw her throw up again last night and there were tons of LIVE worms in her vomit. We took all three cats to get wormed again. WILL THIS EVER END?? How can we stop it from coming back all the time?

What kind of wormer are you using? I have the best luck, by far, with Drontal.

Also, are they treated for fleas? Tapeworms will keep coming back until the fleas are gone.

If they are vomiting worms they have roundworms. You should be getting your wormer from your vet. Your cats should have gone to the appointment to be weighed as the dosage is based on the cat's weight and health at the time. Roundworms can be heavy and more than one dose is usually needed- even as much as three over weeks not days.

if you are using an over the counter wormer- they do not work.

Well we heard that even if all cats dont have signs they can still have them but at an earlier stage. They are definately roundworms. We took the vomit into the vet to prove it. Only one kitten has "signs" but we got them all wormed from the vet.

Do we just wait now to see if it worked?? What can we do to prevent them from coming back?? They are very discusting and I dont think I can handle her vomiting up worms again.

My vet told me to deworm every 6 months and every 3 preferably as did many of the "smart" folks on here ..

I do not indiscrimanently deworm my crew. Because worming pills are poison. I take the fecal in to be checked every 6 months- then if they are wormy- and they usually aren't- they get wormed. Those are the inside cats-

The outside cats get wormed every 4 months. I weigh them, call the vet and he sends me the pills. I know they catch and eat a lot of mice, and even keeping them flea-treated doesn't protect them from tapeworms.

Our indoor cats were wormed as kittens only. At their annual checkup we bring a stool sample and the vet checks them out and we've never had reason to have them de-wormed since the first time.
