Hi everyone! My 9 year old OmaKitty and I were out cruising the internet today, looking for information on how to help her ride in the car and we stumbled across the site. We thought we'd stop in and see if we could find any helpful information.

OmaKitty was rescued about 8 years ago by me after I saw a man beating her in his front yard. I stopped my car, took the cat from him and the bag of kittens he had and we all went home. I had no intention of keeping the cat but OmaKitty had so many problems that I just couldn't let her go. 8 years later, she still has some behavior issues but we have learned how to work around them to keep her happy and healthy.

I got OmaKitty at a time in my life when I was having major depression problems and her company was more than just company during those times. On many occassions, she kept me from doing unmentionable things and for that, she's my hero. She and I are closely bonded from that experience when we were both fighting our own demons and we have both come out the other end better for it.

We also have a 3-year old Chihuahua in the house, named Cooper. He is Oma's least favorite thing in the world but he loves her like no other could. He wakes up every morning and tries to make her his friend but she's not having any of it.

And me, I work seasonally for the IRS as a data transcriber, so I'm unemployed from about July - January, then working like crazy between February and June. It's a great schedule because I can spend time with OmaKitty and Cooper. I volunteer at two shelters, the humane society adoption center and a wildlife rescue/rehab facility, so I'm able to spend a lot of time there when I'm not working. Cooper is also a therapy dog so we visit retirement homes frequently in that capacity.

I guess I've probably rambled on long enough... but I DO need to show a picture of my baby girl!! Here she is...

And one of both my babies:

Welcome to TCS! OmaKitty & you have such an inspiring story! And little Cooper, bless his little doggy-heart
- imagine that, spreading such joy by being a therapy dog! I salute you for dedicating so much of your time enriching the lives of those unfortunate companion animals in the shelters & rehabs!
BTW, in addition to cat stories, I'd LOVE to hear about some of the rescues in the wildlife rehabs!
See ya in the forums! Susan
