Swollen Red Butt

My male kitty has a swollen red butt :-( I haven't been able to catch him at the litter box to get a look at his stools, but he has been licking, so it must not feel good. His energy level is normal, so no other signs of sickness. A couple of weeks ago, I did notice a bit of blood coming out with his stools, but I think it cleared up. No sign of worms. Can cats get hemorrhoids?

more than likely he may have impacted anal glads or could be constipated. I would take him to the vet either way because both can be very uncomfortable and cause serious problems.

Sandie, my kitty had a most unpleasant trip to the vet this evening, as his anal glands were squeezed! Quite a bit came out, so my vet believes that to be the reason for his discomfort and redness. This week I'm mixing Prescription Diet RD with his normal food to take care of any residual irritation. Thanks for the help!

I am glad you took him to the vet. I am sure he's going to be feeling much better now even though the experience must have been awful.
