I noticed George do something very odd this morning. When I gave him his dish of wet food, he scratched the floor a couple times as if he was covering up poop in his litterbox and then walked away. I'm not really concerned, but do find it very odd. Has anybody else seen this behavior?

Kristin, this is a completely normal behaviour that harks back to the wild. If a cat isn't hungry right then or has had his fill of food, he will bury it to hide it from others so he can come back later to finish it. George is 'saving' his food for later.

Chichi does this when she is finished and there is some left in the bowl. They just " cover " it so it will be there when they come back

Mine don't do that.. but when I worked at the rescue shelter I noticed alot of them doing it.. as well as when they threw up.. they would try to cover it up a bit.

Neither of my cats throw up much,
but when we lived with another couple and their two cats (one of which was long-haired with chronic tummy troubles, and threw up a lot), I noticed Spike would often cover up the other cats' spit-up. He would also try to eat it, to get rid of it if he couldn't find something appropriate to use as cover. My boyfriend was a little yicked out by this, until I explained that this was Spike's attempt to help "clean up" the mess. (I didn't have the heart to explain to my boyfriend that Spike wasn't doing it to help us, but because he didn't want predators to find the spit-up and was protecting the other cats.) I've never seen my cats try to "bury" their food, but they're on scheduled feeding times and wolf everything down the instant it's put in front of them!
