Can someone please give me some advice on how to go about introducing my older cat (approximately 12 years old) to my kitty I rescued last week. The kitty is about 6 - 8 weeks old. I tried some introductions this morning. I put the kitty down on the bed and the older cat came right over and they sniffed each other. That lasted for about a minute or two and then the older cat laid down and proceeded to his and carry on when the kitty would try to walk around on the bed. I of course stayed in there with them the whole time.

Sounds promising! Have you tried swapping scents? Rub a towel over on kittie, then give it to the other to lie on & vice versa?
I'm sure someone else will give better advice, but one thing I would recommend is keeping both cats on the floor. To cats, height is an important thing and the older cat may see the kitten being higher up as a threat.
