MY INDOOR CAT RAN OUTSIDE AND I CAN'T FIND HER!!! My indoor kitten (about 9-10 months old) ran outside when we were giving some trick or treaters some candy. I did see her under some shrubs and was able to grab her when someone in the neighborhood shot off some fireworks. This really spooked her and she ran off in and I haven't see her since. I am very worried for her as she is probably really scared. Any tips on what I should do to try and get her back?

She's been tatooed in her right ear and we've put some of her well known toys and some food where we last saw her hiding.

Any advice and help would be very appreciated

How long has she been gone? If it's a few hours, I wouldn't worry much yet, she'll probably return home, when she's settled down and done exploring. I would walk around the neighbourhood, calling her: She might emerge, or follow you unnoticed to your home, as my runaway did.

If it doesn't look like she's coming back, favourite food in a trap (you can probably borrow one from your local shelter) could work. Hope she comes back safe and sound!

GOOD NEWS! Just as I was making my final rounds for the night my girlfriend spotted her in our neighbors yard. They were kind enough to let us go through to their backyard and retrieve her. Thanks for all of your comments and support.

First: I am REALLY glad you found your kitty.

This is why several days ago I said that I didnt think it was a good idea to participate in handing out candy on haloween for this very reason and some members thought I was kind of a grinch. I will NEVER hand out candy on haloween because of problems such as this. Another thing that many people dont think about is the constant ringing of the door bell is unsettling for the animals. I beleive you have to think of your animals first/let other peoples kids go to somone elses house for their free handouts. God I HATE haloween. Anyway my personal feelings aside it is not good for pets and pet owners should reconsider how important it is to ahnd out candy to strangers. Is it worth your animals health and safety?

I put my cats in a bedroom during Trick or Treat. I do that anytime there is likely to be traffic through the doors, like if the repairman comes over. Also if someone comes over that is not good with cats. They know they are safe in there, and that's where their food and litter box is anyway.

Thank goodness you found your poor little cat!

OR you could, you know, put your cat in another room for the, like, 2 hours that the people come trick-or-treating...there's an idea...or stand in the doorway or pull a chair up so the kids don't ring the doorbell...there are a lot of things you can do and still participate in Halloween instead of saying "god I hate it" ...relax, calm down, chill out, heh.

i second that. halloween is almost the only holiday i like. I just put the household's bolters up for a bit, and everything is fine. no need to bash a holiday you personally don't like when the original posters' problem was caused more by not putting the cat up than by the holiday. it did not have to be halloween for that to happen, and if you dont like it, just turn your lights off and lay low until trick-o-treating is over.
