Those of us who live in Australia will of course all be aware that the 8-year-old mare, Makybe Diva, has just won her third Melbourne Cup in a row!

It is a HUGE horse race held on the first Tuesday of every November at Flemington in Melbourne, and literally hundreds of thousands of people go and watch around the nation.

This year's senitmental favourite actually won it again today for the third time in a row, breaking history - not even Phar Lap did that! She is being retired as of today - talk about going out with a bang!

YAY FOR MAKYBE DIVA! Many a tear was wiped away today in Australia, that's for sure!

Many a tear wiped over here in NZ too. It's just as big here!

My Mum put $10 on her and won the trifecta! I don't know exactly how much she won but it was quite alot.

I'm so proud of Maykbe Diva! That's outstanding!

I'm trying to find out how much that would've paid for a $10 bet but so far the internet is NOT forthcoming!

didnt want you to waste your money - favourites never win - but I should of realised that this horse really is a champion and nothing was going to get in her way.

Never mind - we will come up with another reason for the savings account to start

I won $10 woo hoo. I was convinced she couldn't do it, not carrying that weight but she was in one of my mystery bets. Well done Makybe Diva. I'm not a big fan of horseracing but this was truly 'the race that stopped a nation'!

I'll say! We took Ruby to the vet last night to have her stitches out. Our vet is in Leederville which is the neighbouring suburb to where I live, and quite a hip sort of party place. On a Tuesday night there were girls in full spring racing gear out (hats and all) and men all dressed up, everyone was tanked, and there were HUGE lines to get into pubs and clubs! It looked busier than a normal Saturday in Leederville - it was bizarre! Couldn't get a parking spot for love or money outside the vet, so we had to walk Ruby past all the dressed up finery - lucky she didn't jump up on anyone that would've been mortifying!!

Although I did find out this morning that the track had been watered beforehand - and that she was going to be scratched if the track was too dry......hmmmmm not strictly illegal but a bit dodgy, wouldn't you say?
