Our son . Mike, went out to do some yard work for us today and saw one of our indoor cats ,Toby, running around in the yard. He freaked out cause he did`nt realize that the cat had sneaked out...so he called him. Toby would`nt come, but just ducked down ,and went under some undergrowth ,and into the woods. Mike pursued him , calling and pleading with him to come back....Toby just kept evading him. Finally after chasing him for 45 minutes ,Mike decided he was just driving him farther away, and knowing cats have pretty good homing instincts, he decided to let him be, and hope that he would find his way back BEFORE I got home.
He thought he`d get some food and leave it on the porch in hopes that Toby would smell it and be tempted to return soon....but when he stepped into the house...there was Toby sitting with Tedy on the cat tree...looking at him like "why were you calling me out there???"
No wonder he would`nt come to him.....Mike had been chasing somebody elses cat!!!
(WHEW! I`m sure glad it was`nt Toby!)

Hehehee. That has happened to me before. Mike has nothing to be ashamed of. It's to his credit that he was so worried.

Thanks for the chuckle! Good story. Reminds me of the one a co-worker told me about. Her husband found their cat in the road (had been hit by a car). He went home and broke the news to his wife. Over tears, they buried their beloved cat in the back yard. That evening, they open the door, and in walks their cat!! They buried someone else's kitty!

OMG, two very funny stories! Maybe the start of a new thread?

Lol that's funny - and good for him for being so dedicated to your little kit!

Oh, that's too funny! And maybe the Toby-look alike will stay closer to home!
you have a good son, to be so concerned about a cat!

That's pretty much how we ended up with our "half-cat". She looks very much like Jamie, though she's half his size now, and neighbors kept thinking he'd gotten out, and would pick "him" up and bring "him" to our door. I kept telling them that if the cat let them pick her up, it certainly wasn't Jamie. After her family moved, she kept coming back and insisting that she lived at our house, although her former landlords had taken her in.
The funniest time was when the guy next door, now in his mid-twenties, got home from a party at 3 a.m., spotted "Jamie", and chased "him" through the bushes for half an hour, getting very scratched up in the meantime. He captured "him", and took "him" inside, and was preparing to call us when his sister came downstairs and asked him why he'd made such a racket and brought ZsaZsa inside?

Apparently this is more common than you'd think
. When I was a teenager at home, my cat Shado had been MIA for over 2 weeks. I finally saddled up my horse and went down the road looking and found a dead black cat (VERY dead) in the middle of the road. I was brokenhearted
. I couldn't deal with it of course (teenage angst) and my mom went down there with a shovel and scraped the poor creature up off the road, brought it back and buried it in our "Pet Cemetary." The VERY next morning Shado shows back up at the house! Turns out she'd been haunting the neighbor's barn for the last couple of weeks mousing. So there was some strange cat buried in our back yard. Oh, well. At least it got a decent burial.
