We have had several kids trick or treating tonight, I would have to say that at least half of the ones knocking on the door are not dressed up and have not even said "trick-or-treat". They just hold a plastic bag out and then walk off without even as much as a thank you. When I was a kid I always made sure to say "trick-or-treat" and also always said thank you.
Another thing I noticed is that they all want to choose which pieces of candy they get and how many. I had one ask for extra candy for her friends who were resting on the curb, and one girl who I guessed to be about 20 carrying a young baby with 2 pillow cases collecting candy for the both of them.

Any other Halloween frustrations out there???

I won't give them candy if they aren't in costume or over the age of about 13. I only got one joke this year so far but at least almost everyone has said trick or treat. And, they get what I give them, this isn't a buffet.

btw Squirtle, I love your siggy

Thanks! Hope made it for me
She did such a great job.

I have been giving them all candy because I worry about the house getting egged
I am about to turn the lights off now though because you won't believe this... some teenage girl, about 16 or 17, just rode up in a car to trick or treat at my house. She wasn't wearing a costume or anything. She jumped back in the car and they drove down another 2 houses and she jumped out to trick or treat there too! I can't believe it. What has happened
They can't be having as much fun as we used to going politely from door to door and dare I say WALKING!

Kids have no respect nowdays. You can bet as soon as my kid is old enough to trick or treat (when he can actually walk and eat candy) he will go door to door and politely tell his joke and say thank you. One kid actually gave me a hug when I gave him his candy.

We had ONE trick-or-treat pair of kiddies come around last night. It was horribly embarrassing - Halloween's not really a big deal in Perth and so we'd pretty much forgotten about it. We didn't have a SINGLE treat in the house - nothing that could even pass for a treat. We felt awful...the poor things must have thought we were just being scummy. They were very nice about it, but we were mortified!!

Well, I just turned the lights out and I even have some leftovers (even after all that I have eaten
).

We had 21 trick or treaters. A few were older, but they were all really polite. I have SO much candy left over!

The traffic is usually low in our neighbourhood. I came home a little early to be here as soon as I could, in the hope of seeing some little people. To this point (just after 6), I've opened the door once. Three kids, probably all girls, all in costume, all polite, probably 11 or 12. I'll keep opening the door until they get too old (mid teens?) or aren't in costume, or aren't polite.

We will almost certainly have leftovers -- especially as the new tenant in the back asked if he could contribute some chocolate bars, and provided half the candy store! He'll get back what doesn't go and will probably be supplied in chocolate for the rest of the year, or more; and we'll eat up our Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Sunmaid Raisins. I always make sure to buy what we don't mind eating up.

I wish we had more kids. I used to get a real charge out of Halloween, when there were lots of kids coming to the door. Now I have a hard time getting excited about getting a pumpkin carved. But my "little boy" still has the spirit -- we drove all over hell's halfacre yesterday looking for one! He did a nice job on it, I must say.

I think we set the record this year. I planned on 300 tops. We had well over 400 kids this year! I think the nice weather helped. Most are polite and in costume. We always have the teenagers, those asking to have extras for their sister, brother, yadda yadda. I don't have any rules at my house. If you walk up to my door and knock, you get candy! When it's all gone, the light go out. I went trick-or-treating until I was a young teen. I don't see anything wrong with it. At 43, I still get the urge to go!!

Not one kid came to my house today and I have a lot of candy.
I think they didn't come because my neighborhood is still in the dark.

We don't have trick or treating at night, so we took Mark's daughter to another town (wrong?) for night time trick or treat. I've never been at night, and it was so much more fun to do that! Spookier! But, I can see where it could be very dangerous too, if parents weren't around. I agree, the kids were rude. We told Kayla at every house to say "Trick or treat" and Thank you, or she couldn't have candy! She's 19 months and she said it every time! I wish all the kids were like that! Also, I think kids should be encouraged to think up more creative costumes, like keep their minds working. Not just throw a sheet over their heads and say boo!

No trick-or-treaters tonight (I live in an apartment building) but I'm listening to "Songs from the Crypt" on my local classical station. I love this show
. All the "scary" classical music. I less than sign three In the Hall of the Mountain King.

No trick or treaters, the only thing banging at our door at the moment is the wind. We are having a microburst-

Well I am a die-hard Halloween-er. I always have been and at 34 - maybe always will be. I get to take my kids out for the next X amount of years...then I can start planning for the grandkids to go! lol

We got a special fun thing this year - one of our kittens - Sabria the black cat - followed us around town Halloweening with us! lol It was hilarious watching her hopping out of the car with the kids and then she'd come back when we piled in.

lol

a few all in costume and well mannered ... last year about 100 but with what happened here this summer I bet the parents are taking the little ones to schools and such... It is sad I went thru my teens since there were alot of older folks( 75 plus yr olds ) in the area and they wanted even older teens to dress up

I don't have any problems with the teenagers going. It's just that I think they should dress up in a costume and be polite just like the younger kids. I really didn't like the driving around to trick or treat...

We had a relatively heavy load come through tonight...I love the older kids that get dressed up...I gave out candy to anyone who said their line enthusiastically and was dressed up...they could have been 70 for all I cared!

I put on my witch hat and Ian's cat Remus (his all-black baby) sat out with my in his harness and lead. Everyone got such a kick out of my little cat-dog (Remus is one of those super-friendly, super-affectionate, leash trained puppy dog cats) and everyone was polite here. The only person who didn't say trick or treat was this one little girl who was too shy and wanted nothing more than to pet the kitty!
