Ok. This might be a stupid reason to be annoyed, but the new lady I work with hums - tunelessly, pretty much the same two notes over and over, short-short-long - incessantly, non-stop, ALL DAY.

I think I am going to kill her.

She is lovely and I get along with her really well, but this just drives me up the wall!!

Someone please tell me how I can deal with this and move on!! Surely it's not THAT big a deal but it's sending me round the twist!!!

Yeah I put music on but she still does it....lol

The only way I can deal with it at the moment is to say something to her that she HAS to answer every time she starts up, cos it knocks it off for at least a couple of seconds....it's not lasting relief though, I'm thinking perhaps some rat poison might do the trick....LOL!!

Try asking her what song she is singing...
Then make sure to ask that same question every time she starts humming.

LOL! I thought of that....

`Jenny, what is that stupefyingly irritating ditty you have been humming without respite for three months? If you continue, I might have to do something violent that I will regret almost immediately'

Jeesh I wish I had the balls to say something like that to someone!!!

I worked with someone like that once, he also talked to himself, made stupid noises and had a really, really bad body odour problem. I can't even begin to describe how much he annoyed me, it's so hard to concentrate when you have a constant hum going on. You have my sympathy, but no advice because the way I dealt with it was by leaving!

Hey! How about sneaking in a tape recorder ???? And then play it back for her???
My oldest daughter used to "whine" when she was going through puberty. She SWORE she was`nt "whining".....but when she actually heard herself she pretty much stopped!

Man, that would drive me banana sandwiches!

She probably doesn't even realize she's doing it. You could always just say "Honey, I love working with you and you know I think you're great, but the humming thing is just SOO distracting!"

She probably has no idea how often she does it or how distracting it is.

I used to have a couple of co-workers "sing" along to Musak!!! The Musak alone was bad enough.
I bet she doesn't even realize that she does this-maybe that is how she concentrates??
I would politely ask her about it-explaining nicely that her actions are a distraction to you.
Other than that you could always get some ear plugs and make it obvious to her when you put them in!!
