Well, I had some paper towels in the kitten's room just in case of any "accidents". We've been very lucky- just one case of vomiting. Well someone got ahold of the roll and "killed" a couple of sheets. Instead of tossing I left the destroyed sheets on the floor, where they have been killed, and tortured... Am I right to assume this is safe- paper can't harm them can it? By leaving it am I encouraging the behavior? I've been lucky with the other two- no TP shredding or anything...
BTW they have tons of "traditional" toys.

One of mine never eats the paper towels, tp, etc., just shreds and spits out all the pieces onto the floor - does the same thing with cardboard boxes.

I am looking at it as some form of "cat art" and yes, my cats have a ton of toys to play with as well. I suspect it may be because it is something different for them...

I do know people who say that the best cat toys are a paper towel with a single knot in the center. It did not sound like a good idea to me so I didn't try that, just kind of circular filed that idea, but now I'm curious. I can't imagine they can digest paper very well.

Did have a Siamese at one point who decided he just had to have the 10 lb duck that was defrosting in the sink. Heard the thunk, thunk, thunk as "Spike" dragged it downstairs into the basement. Followed the noise and rescued the mostly still frozen duck...didn't serve it for dinner though, ordered in instead. LOL!

I wouldn't let them ingest too much of it if I were you. Keep in mind, paper towels soak up liquids, and they may be difficult or impossible to digest. I'd be concerned that the material may soak up intestinal juices and cause a blockage.

I'm not a vet or anything, but why not play it safe?

My kitten thinks its great to rip up tissues whenever he gets the opportunity! I'm not sure if he eats its or not, but he is still pooping so I guess he can't be too bad!

Well OK, but you know tissues don't stop up my toilet; paper towels do!

We are definitely pooping- just cleaned out their litterbox- plus the 4 others in my house right now! I don't think they are eating them- I just looked and there are only a few small pieces missing and they could have been tossed by my husband.

Well I wouldn't let your husband eat them either. Is he still pooping too? Or is he just "tossing" them? I'd a thought you have enough problems just with barfy kittens.

He's always pooping! Typical clean freak- just walked in and said- what are these paper towels doing here?? I told them the've been there for a few days.. No they haven't I just cleaned in here... Now they are in the trash. Of course he pulled some sticky label off a tin I was keeping the food in, balled it up, aimed it at the trash and missed. Guess what the kids are playing with now? This is too funny- lil' Suzie is having a ball and the others are watching!

DUshka is my paper shredder - you name it, toilet roills, paper towels, letters on the hall floor, documents on my desk, even cardboard folders - she has got to tear them into bite sized pieces. But she doesn't eat them - she just likes the noise of them tearing, I htink. She also does it to get my attention - she knows I can't resist the sound, especially when she is on my desk and she wants me to get up and feed her!
