Hi,

We acquired a 7 year old female cat about a year ago and we were told that she had been already spayed.
Until now she has been behaving normally but for the last 3-4 weeks she has been showing signs of being on heat. She will rub her hind quarters against our legs or the sofa with her head down, forelegs bent, rear quarters raised, with the tail raised and held to the side of the body. Her rear legs will tread rhythmically, as if walking in place.

Is it possible for a spayed female cat to be on heat? If so, is it possible to stop the cat from doing this?

It is possible she was never spayed after all?

You can get it checked easily enough with your vet. It would be a good thing to check on. You really don't want her to go into heat, get outside and come back pregnant do you?

Have her checked by a vet. You may be able to feel a spay scar yourself, but best to see the vet so any other causes other than heat can be checked for.

Thanks for the help. I'll take her down the vet and see if they can work it out...

I hope you were`nt lied to about such a thing! Can`t imagine what else would make her act like that....but it also seems like she`d surely have done it before now if she was`nt fixed.
Let us know what you find out when you go to the vet, will you? This is a mystery!
