You might want to check Petsmart too. They sell "Top Paw dog homes" for $39 and $49 that are nice and insulated. You can add a vinyl flap to the door opening and put straw or thermal blankets on the floor to add warmth.

Be sure to hide them out of sight so noone will bother them or take them away.

I'm not psychic,I just see through people
we live in uk and have plastic re-cycling boxes with removable lids one day during summer we came across
two of these boxes that had been dumped on landfill and thought what a good home they would make for the feral
so we took them home drilled drain holes in the bottom, drilled ventillation holes in the side, cut a square in the side about six inches by four inches filled it halfway with hay, placed the lid ontop and placed them in the bushes where the ferals slept
,it took them a couple of days to get used to them but now they are in them all the time

i dont know if you have those boxes where you are but if you could find something similar
they would love it
,i put a contact phone number on our boxes in case anybody came across them and tries to dispose of the boxes they would phone the number

They survive just like all the other animals who live outdoors. They grow thicker coats for the winter and they find places to sleep that are protected from the wind and rain. They also eat more in the fall and winter so they can put on an extra layer of body fat for more protection. They're certainly not as comfortable as we are in our heated homes but they do just fine.
