Hello

I was curious as to what cleaners everyone uses in the areas their kitties occupy(sp)?

I am a worry wart so I dont use anything strong like lysol, bleach, drano etc...I usually either use very diluted dish liquid or very diluted mr.clean.

How about you guys??????????

Once in awhile I use a bit of dish soap and rinse VERY well. (Soap can give cats diareah) but usually i just clean with windex and a rag.

I use steam only. It's quick, does a terrific job, and there are no residues. I go through a lot of distilled water, but my dryer (the unvented kind) produces enough to keep the steam cleaner filled.

On most of my floors and clean with vinegar and water but lately I've been adding a bit of Mr. Clean or Murphy's Oil Soap to boost the cleaning power.

Vinegar does a great job. I visit my mom every August (I live on another continent), and started scrubbing her kitchen and bathroom floors with vinegar and water, because I'm allergic to most commercial cleaners. Her first reaction was, "How did you get the floors so clean?" Her second was, "Kano (one of her dogs) has stopped getting boils on his pads - do you think I should switch to vinegar?" Mr. Clean and Murphy's are two of the few cleaners I can use occasionally, without getting bloody rashes on my hands, so I think they're pretty mild.

I usually clean the litter boxes with hot water and a little bit of bleach, and rinse 2-3 times with hot water. Dishes go in the dishwasher. We have hardwood floors- used to use murphy oil on them in the apt, now we use orange clean wood cleaner in the house. We have been using allergen reducer arm & hammer on the carpets in the kitten's room- I have had some sneezing attacks, plus i'm allergic to dust!! I also use woolite or resolve pet stain cleaner on the carpets to clean vomit when it happens. We don't have too many linoleum surfaces in here- usually use something commercially available and rinse.

Method brand cleaning supplies. They're sold at Target...they're all-natural, biodegradable, non-toxic, cruelty-free and vegan. I LOVE them and since I don't keep any harsh, non-naturally derived chemicals in my house (other than the fire extinguisher, of course), they're perfect!

Not that I advocate shopping there, but Wal-mart has started to carry method too.. At least the laundry detergent.

I don't use any bleach, lysol, pine cleaners, etc. either. I'm currently using Seventh Generation products an all natural based cleaner. The only time I use a product with chemicals would be to clean the toilet or the tub, something I don't have to worry about Sash getting into.
For his litterbox it's just hot water and Ivory dishliquid.

Method, and Seventh Generation. We don't have a Target, so I have to get them on-line. I don't even know where Seventh Generation products are sold, and I just found out Method products were at Target when I first mentioned them here. I really wish we had a Target!

I use Simple Green around the house - inexpensive (it's very concentrated), easy to find, non-toxic, and smells good. For the litterboxes, I use bleach and then rinse thoroughly.
