I don't know what to think or say right now..

Right now I'm talking to my best friend from canada and she's telling me how she's getting drunk off Jack Daniels..She showed me the bottle on webcam and everything. I just really don't know what to think right now. I don't understand how this is supposed to be exciting..I asked her if her mom knows about it and no she doesn't..I don't know what to do..

Here's a website that you could check out: http://www.focusas.com/Alcohol.html
It has a quiz that might help. Hopefully, your friend is just being curious. It's true that lots of people drink - it is called the "social lubricant", but it can turn into a real problem the same way that a campfire can quickly become a forest fire. This situation really puts you in a spot, whether or not to tell her mom. I'd say give it some time & see where she goes with it. If you are too judgmental, she might stop opening up to you, and you are a pathway to help, if she wants it. You will also have to decide if this is going to put a strain on your friendship - is this the friend that you wanted to go visit in Canada?

What a rough situation for you. I will send {{{prayers & vibes}}} for you and your friend that her drinking was just a botched experiment with the wild side of life. If she wants real thrills, she should consider rock climbing, snowboarding/skateboarding or horse jumping...just a suggestion. Please keep us posted! susan

The even tougher decision will come when you go to visit her. You may find yourself in a peer pressure situation or one where there is nobody who should be driving. Be careful.

Did you tell your friend that you do not approve of her drinking? That you see no humor or excitement in it? Make your opinion known, calmly and carefully. Be sure she knows that it is because you care. You especially need to to make this clear before your visit. Good luck, hon. It's never easy, but it is important.

I would want to know the following questions-
How old is she? Is she doing this by herself? If so is that a bad sign. Is she trying to show off or something? I know I experimented a little bit at age 15-17- stole the parents vodka and mixed it. I was never that interested but at college drank a bit more.. Some people got way tooo into it. My school waasn't a party school but I knew enough people that used substances way too much and did stupid things- mostly involving sex. :-(. I also work at the court and we cover the state university. The worst things I see at the university involve drinking/drugs. There's a kid who drove drunk with his b-friend in the car and he died. I would find out before you visit how often she does this kind of thing.
