I ventured out this morning with some friends to hike around the coast down in her area (a bit south of me). It was a beautiful fall day in So Cal.

Too my surprise one of the first things we came across was a managed feral colony. One of the caretakers was there with a truck full of food. The bf talked to her a bit (I am a bit shy) and it sounded like it was pretty well set up. I saw shelters and food hidden all over the place. The only unfortunate thing is it is right where a parking lot is, but other than that, these ferals have a nice home *right on the beach*.

I took some pictures, it's a little hard to see because I didn't want to get too close to them and scare them off. There were a TON of them popping in and out of the rocks that you can see in the first two pics. Who knows how many more were hidden away.

This first guy is hard to see, he's walking away from us in front of the rocks towards the center.

This guy is very scenic.

This is the other side of the parking lot, a scrubby cliff that had many shelters hidden into the rocks.

The whole area was beautiful and I won't post the million photos I took, but just yards away from the feral colony was this view:

We enjoyed the tide pools as well. There are urchins and sea stars in this photo.

How interesting! When my children were younger and would go to Ocean City, MD, we would feed a colony of feral cats there. They were unique in the fact that some breeded with racoons and they may have the body of a cat, but the tail of the racoon. Needless to say, we never did get too close to them!

We call Abby's tail a "raccoon tail" all the time, but she is not part raccoon. Although that my account for her occasional "wild" tendencies.!
