Buddy used to eat Nutro Max cat, but then he had pancreatitis and then went on baby food for a while then was put on Science diet ID prescription food, none of them gave him an upset stomach. The vet then gave the okay to take him off the prescription diet.

About 4 days ago I put him on Nutro Natural wet food per vets okay, since it is lower in fat than the Nutro max. I wasn't giving dry food before, but now I am also giving a little Nutro Natural Dry food, since he doesn't seem to be getting full enough off the wet food. But now he has diarreah. I know his system has been through alot, but he never had diareah before now, so I was wondering of course if it's normal and how long should it take to resolve, and what I should watch for.

Thanks!!!

You might want to mix the old and the new 1/2 and 1/2 for awhile. the sudden switch over might be too much for him all at once.

My vet recommends a 10-day-long switchover for kitties. They say give 10% new food & 90% old food on the 1st day. Each day following, increase the new food by 10% & decrease the old food by 10%. I have seen some cat experts recommend an even slower switch, done even more gradually over a period of 2-3 weeks! Not all kitties are sensitive to a sudden switch, but many are and the leading symptom is diarhea. How lucky for those of us who serve the furry masters!

I would suggest getting him back on the old and getting his stool firmer again than doing a nice slow switch..dont shock his little system

Okay, i switched him back to his old food for now and will see if things get better before attempting any new food. He still has diarrhea, but still very active, so i don't think he is sick again, I just don't think his stomach agrees with the new food.
Thanks Guys!!

If the diarhea doesn't clear up in a couple of days back on the old food there's probably something else wrong and the cat should be taken to the vet before it becomes seriously dehydrated from the diarhea.
