I am picking up meds for my kitty tonight-the vet gave me the option of pills or liquid I said liquid-Which is the best choice? I picked the liquid because I figured I could just mix it in with his food is that how it works? or do I have to give it to him orally? If so I will opt for the pills. Thanks for any input-even with my other cat being 16 I have never had to medicate a cat-I am so new to this.

I think you should ask the vet. When we got the liquid medicine we had to use the plastic syringe (without the need of course) and put it into their mouth and "inject". Hope this helps.

What is the medication you'll be giving? I ask because some meds, like Clavamox, are far too yucky-tasteing in liquid form to be mixed with food...the cat can smell it & usually refuses to eat the food. Is your kitty a Hoover (i.e. sucks up any food that comes in his reach)? I have one like that & with her it's easier to get pill form medication...I just put it in a tiny bit of meat-flavored baby food & she eats it without even noticing the pill. Also, some vets can take the medication & compound it into a flavored liquid that will appeal to a cat...chicken pot pie, salmon, or tuna being favorites. Those are usually the easiest of all to give...some cats will drink it right off the syringe!

I can't get a pill into a cat no matter what I do. I always opt for the liquid. Clavamox is usually very sweet. At least when I get it it is. It comes with a eye dropper and I just squirt it into their mouth. Now orbax is bitter!!! My cats are on it now. And it taste horrid.. My vet even mixed it with karo syrup trying to make it taste better.

I would stick with the liquid. I tried to give pills by mouth and in food for Buddy, and it was very difficult to give, he could taste it in his food and would not swallow the pill. Liquid, is much easier. Just open your cats mouth, squirt really quick, the cats swallows the medicine and everyone can happily go about their business and the cat get the medicine it needs.

I`d much rather do liquid too...I think it is easier and then I don`t have to worry about causing them to choke on something solid.
