I took the stray I had been feeding in to the vet today for an exam and disease check. Unfortunately, I discovered he had FIV. Because of the combination of FIV, his eye problem (he only had one functioning eye), his age (between 10 and 15 years), and the probability of hyperthyroidism, my vet and I decided it would be best to put him to sleep peacefully. He had been living in my apartment complex for at least a year, but I doubt he would have survived another winter. I know in my heart that giving him an easy passing was the best thing I could have done for him, hard as it was for me to watch him go. I put up flyers on everyone's door so that they can get their outdoor kitties tested too. I named him Diego on the way to the vet's office. Rest in peace, Diego. You will be missed.

Oh, poor kitty, I'm so glad he knew loving and caring in his last moments. All the RB kitties will be waiting for him!

Rest in peace, Diego. Now you will always have a warm spot to sleep, and lots of friends. And you crossed the bridge with a name, and love.

Thanks for helping this boy, Cloud Shade. I'm sorry the story didn't end in a happier way, for your sake and for Diego.

Condolences on your loss of Diego. Bless you for taking him in, and sparing him the suffering & misery that certainly awaited him, had you not intervened. You selflessly chose to do what was best for him, and Heaven is one kitty happier tonight! Hugs, Susan

Diego was really not a stray. He was a part of you and your family. You showed that by how you loved and took care of him. It is always hard to lose them. I think a piece of our heart goes too. May your memories bring you peace and comfort.
Diego, rest in peace. You knew you were loved and now you will be missed. You were a blessed cat to have someone who loved you so much and took care of you.
