Bella and Trixie just got into a huge FIGHT -- a knock down drag out chasing/jumping/clawing/hissing/yeowlling FIGHT and it FREAKED ME OUT!

I had to run over and yell and throw pillows at them before they would stop.

Its day 5 of Trix being out of confinement and Trix has been submissive & giving Bella her space as Bella doesnt want to be touched or anywhere near her. But lately Tixie has not stopped when Bella hisses and finally today just kept coming toward her. It happened one other time but not this bad.. mostly just swats by Bella but she now wont leave her bed when Trixie is around which I cant see as progress. This time Bella was by her bed and Trix went for it.. Bella hissed and Trix kept coming by the time I got there Trix was jumping up into her bed and wanting to fight? I dont know.. I just broke it up.

oh dear oh dear.. Is this them working out who is Alpha? My vet said Bella has to get used to the idea of Trixie and theres nothing I can do.. but should I let them fight?!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes cats fight....and sometimes cats play real rough...either way its hard to stop it or prevent it........

You may want to try the "Feliway" plug-in...it has calming abilities in some cats....

Other than that sometimes it just happens...My cats have been together for years and sometimes they still kick the snot out of eachother.......

Just keep an eye on it make sure it doesnt get too out of hand, deep gashes, deep bites, and after a bit it should settle down

Good luck

Really?? I didnt think indoor cats fought?? My resident is so docile and its just freaking me out to see them doing this. So far no biting or gashes but are they are working it out?? wow..
I have a feliway diffuser right next to Bella's bed.. I think Trix needs some PLAY.. she was waiting for me when I got home and is a spaz right now. :-O

Yeah they may just be play figting....if they were really fighting you would know it, screeming, crying, fur flying......

Doofus and Poppy wrestle daily....and Mab has a good temper on her...I am sure after awhile things will settle down

oh no they are fighting.. Trixie just 'met' Bella officially last week. Bella avoids her like the plague and as long as she is left alone is fine. Trix wants to play and so .. There was fur flying for sure. Thanks for the reassurance.. Its so shocking I dont know what to do with it.. never had 2 cats before.

Did you introduce the cats to each other slowly, i.e., kept them apart for several weeks and let them see and smell each other but not be together? If you rushed the meeting that may be your problem. If so, you will probably have to start all over with the introduction by separating them and letting them smell, hear and see each other.

We kept Mika and Bijou separated for 1 full month but allowed supervised visits for short periods of time. If they started getting rough with each other we immediately separated them again.

Interestingly..I have used both methods..the throw into the fire, and the slow introduction, and I saw no difference...The cats all adore eachother..were cuddling hours after meeting....Poppy was the one we did slowly, and Mabby still doesnt like her that much.......

I know the slow method is the way everyone should go, because I have heard many success stories using this method...However I have the feeling my cats are just wierd.........

They really will figure it out eventually....even if they end up not being friends (I`m sure it`s no different than it is with people) then they will learn to ignor one another....usually this does`nt happen though and they buddy up in THEIR TIME.

thanks for the replies.. yes I introduced them slowly.. over 3 weeks and according to the vet, its time to just let them figure it out. They ignored each other for the first few days as long as Trixie kept away from her, Bella was fine. Whenever she got too close, Bella would hiss and run away. Now Trixie really wants to play -- she is more comfortable and wants to find out about Bella. Bella wants none of it and swats/gets mad and then Trixie defends herself.
I was upset when it happened, but noticed that they both settled down easily after the fight. Within about 20 min Bella was yawning/cleaning and back to sleep and Trixie was playing with her toys in the same room (about 10ft apart tho!).
This AM they started in again, but there was only hissing.. so maybe there is progress. Its just upsetting for this kitty momma but guess its all part of the process. thanks for helping me not get too stressed about it.
