We're currently trying a bunch of different clumping clay litters for our new cat who refuses to use the natural based ones. She seems to use the thicker grained "el-cheapo" brand from the grocery store and will not go near the Maxx-cat (which I'm pretty sure is the same as the Tidy cats, just in canada). Some cats can be soo picky!

The brand isn't important to me, but the texture is. The finer the better, because thats what Tripod requires...and believe me, its worth it to buy whatever kind he will use.

i've tried fresh step and now am using arm and hammer. both work very well- i prefer fresh step though, even if it's a little more pricey: it clumps slightly better and has less odor.

That's basically the way it is here. I buy very fine, clumping litter (betonite) that doesn't cause a lot of "dust". So far I've found three brands I really like, and that the cat doesn't kick out of his box.

When Moss was using his tray we used Yesterdays News. It's fantastic stuff and you can compost it too. It's made with 100% recycled paper. It's ace and we had no mess or tracking

I don't know what brand it is, but it's a clumping litter that has charcoal in it. I was using Tidy Cat, but the fragrance bothered me. The current litter isn't scented, and it really controls oder (which is something desperately needed with two cats, two boxes, and a 450 sq. ft. apartment).

I also have a rabbit, and I use pine or spruce pellets (for woodstoves) and it's 5 bucks for a 40 pound bag for him.

My Cats are much smellier , and I use Johnny Cat scoopable as it's the only one that's sold in my town that combats cat bowels effectively. That's when I can't buy the super light, fine flushable stuff. And I can't remember the name of it, one plastic jug has been equal to about a 15 pound bag it's fantastic.

We used to use Feline Pine and were quite happy with it for a long time, until Oreo developed an aversion to it after he suffered through bladder stones. That was the beginning of a very frustrating search for the perfect litter.

After trying a lot of different litters, trying to find a good clumping natural litter that's not ridiculously expensive, I've recently settled on Fresh Results from 8in1. It's made from corncobs and it clumps firmly, is flushable, controls odor effectively, is not dusty, and is reasonably priced ($6 for a 10-lb bag).
It has a pine scent, so it might not work for cats who are picky about scented litter, but my cats took to it easily. Our local grocery store recently started carrying it, so now we can pick it up when we shop for groceries. Now I just hope it stays in production, and the price stays reasonable.

I recently started using a new litter from 8in1 that sounds exactly like the one you described, Tuxedokitties, but it's called One Earth and I got it at the Wild Oats market. I love it so far! Seamus has been having some allergy issues and the vet recommended switching to a less dusty litter. I still wanted a clumping litter, but non-clay, so I picked this up. The smell is pleasant, the ingredients are all natural, and it clumps well. Best of all, there is no dust!

I've tried many differnt litters, but after doing a test between a couple I found that my cats really like Cat Attract. I tried it because it claims to have the lowest amount of dust (& Jordan has very mild asthma). I'm not sure if that is ture, but it's better than a lot of other brands. The true selling point was when I had 2 boxes with the old brand & 1 with the Cat Attract (mind you a box they didnt' really like & would only use 1 or 2 times a day) they began consistantly choose the the box with the Cat Attract. I think it's gone down in price. I'd sware it used to be $13 for a 20 lb bad, but now it's $10 & there is always a $1 off cupon in the bag.

My favorite is Feline Pine, but I don't think my Cupid likes it because it's hard on his precious paws. Plus, sometimes the pine pellets break and make really sharp pieces. It's also a hassle to scoop. I like Swheat Scoop, but it is way too dusty and the clumps are HUGE and sticky. I half-way liked World's Best because it clumps pretty well (but they flake a little) but the smell of it makes me
. Probably because the clumps flake off, so it's hard to get all the pieces out of the litter.

I've been dying to try Feline Pine Scoopable, because I really like the sawdust texture of Feline Pine when the pellets break down, but I can't find it online and I certainly can't find it in town.

The perfect litter would smell like Feline Pine (love the natural pine scent) or have NO scent, would be all natural, be really soft and fine, wouldn't stink, would form rock-like clumps that don't stick to the box, would be flushable and eco-friendly, and have absolutely no dust. If anyone finds one like that, let me know!

For the wood pellets..they do have Feline pine, and the cheaper version. But if you have a local feed store, hardware store, home improvement store..call them and ask for Wood Stove Pellets! I pay 4.29 per 40lb bag! WHOO LOVE THEM LOVE THEM LOVE THEM!

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
I use Cat-San hygeine litter. I can't compare as Ive never used anything else. It seems to do the trick and doesn't smell.
We got that because when we were in Pets at Home preparing for our new arrival the guy said it was best as it had bigger bits so kittens were less likely to inhale it when they are sniffing around as they do.
Dunno if he was just trying to sell us a more expensive product (Ive never looked at other prices...) or if he was telling us the truth.
Either way it does the job, I just wish the bags were bigger as it doesnt last long
