What do cats dream about?

I notice that when both the adult cats and the kittens sleep, their whiskers, eyes and paws twitch. I know they are dreaming. I wonder what they are dreaming about. I know we will probably never know, but I would like to know what everyone thinks.

They are dreaming of the great mouse hunt, or maybe chasing a butterfly, either way it sure is cute to watch them!

I think Tibby dreams of chasing Molly (as he does this a lot) and Molly dreams that she's bigger than Tibby and chasing him!

Usva had nightmares for the first months she was with us (she is a rescue cat). She cried really sadly and twitched in her sleep. When I shaked her awake, she started purring and petting me hysterically. I suppose she was glad to find out it was just a dream. Luckily she doesn't have the nightmares anymore.

Awwww, poor baby! I bet she is so pleased to have found her forever home with you!

awww, how sad for her.

My kitties snuggle as close to me as they can get.
I would also like to know what cats dream about.

Reilly likes to pretend he's a big macho boy but sometimes when he sleeps he kneads the air and suckles like a little baby...awww

I love it when Harley sleeps, he purrs so loud, and he is such a cuddler-usually I hold him like a little baby (awww ) and he always takes deep breaths and sighs like he's so content cuddling. He never seems like he has bad dreams, he's always been a very content (and cute) sleeper!

I suspect the main thing Peter dreams about is food, since these thoughts also consume every moment he's awake!

I bet my girls dream about the peaceful life they led before Peter.

Since my kitties are inside babies, I think they dream of chasing bugs. Bonnie may dream of chasing the other cats. They are always chasing her. LOL

Catkiki, I have wondered the same thing while watching a one or two day old kitten sleeping. I wonder if they're dreaming of what they felt in the womb or thier first day, as they haven't been around long enough to dream of most things and, at that stage, they are both deaf and blind.

Mostly, they seem to dream about chasing each other, or chasing something. The other day, though, Bella was making the weirdest noises while she slept, and she was *eating* something. Complete with licking her lips after. It was the cutest thing I've ever seen her do.

One time one of my cats was dreaming, and then she suddenly popped up with her claws out and mouth open, which left a small tear in the couch. Seconds later she was sleeping again. If I was any closer my arm would have been torn!

Meow meow would dream of hitting boy boy on the head like she used to....

boy boy would probably be sleeping so soundly that he hardly even dreams... he just snores......

I love to watch kitties when they're sleeping...

If my cat is sleeping in another room, sometimes she'll wake up and start meowing loudly and come running to find me. Ordinarily she doesn't talk. I often wonder if she's dreaming about being in the shelter and has to reassure herself that yes, she's in a real home now and has a meowmy who loves her. I hope most of her dreams are happy... but of course a lady doesn't have to tell.
