I honestly didn't know there was two types. Ragdolls are just a recent breed - not very old to have two types. Be interested in knowing the answer.

Unless you are talking about the Ann Baker ICRA original ones that Ragdoll breeders don't associate with.

I thought that unless they fell into the "pointed, bi color, or mitted" catagory, they were considered "Ragamuffins" not ragdolls......

So ragamuffins are ragdolls. It just depends on their colors? As to which they are called? I wondered what a ragamuffin was..

Not exactly, Ragamuffins are considered a seperate breed. Supposedly they lost the "ragdoll" temperament when they started breeding the "sport" ragdolls but I am not an expert. And I will tell you that not all ragdolls live up to the "temperament" as specified in the breed standard, I have one who doesn't so I know! Just be sure that who ever you buy from has heathy HCM screened cats and offer a heath guarentee, and if possible go to the breeders and see/play with the kittens before you choose and buy one.
I would suggest you check this site.....http://www.ragdoll-cats.com/breeder.htm and good luck on your new kitten should you decide to get one

Yeah, but you wouldn't want Jasper any other way.

Nope! this is not correct! It would be possibly correct if one of the existing Parents were a registered RagaMuffin or possibly one of the Ancestors was registered as a RagaMuffin otherwise it's probably still a Ragdoll that is not being bred to the correct and current Ragdoll Standard.

The RagaMuffins are a separate Breed. They are not "sport" Ragdolls and we lost absolutely nothing. The Breed has a wonderful temperament as I sure most Pet Owners can and will attest too.

I thought one of the differences between Radgolls and Ragamuffins were their eye color. Ragdolls always have blue while the Ragamuffins can have other eye colors.

Dear Curt,

I am only stating what I read in a book. I am not attacking Ragdolls and I was talking about Ragamuffins NOT Ragdolls. I am not attacking either breed. Although my own Ragdoll Jasper doesn't have the "standard" temperament I love him totally and would not trade him for anything. He has quite a personality even if it doesn't quite fit the standard. If every cat bred fit the standard perfectly there wouldn't BE any pet quality kittens and a lot fewer people would have them because lots of folks don't have or won't pay the going cost of a show kitten. No offense meant to you or the breed, ok?

Hi Beth,

There are Ragdoll Breeders that are breeding "Ragdolls" not according to the Breeds written Standard.Non Standard Ragdolls can have eye colors other than blue. These are probably the "Sport Ragdolls" you are making reference of
