She is safe to take to the vet now. The vet may charge you a little extra if she is truly in heat...but they can still conduct the spay.
This is actually not true and can be dangerous as some cats become sexually mature well before 5-6 months. I've seen kittens have kittens and it's not pretty...a pediatric spay/neuter is the way to go...and can be safely performed when the kitten weighs 2 pounds. It's perfectly safe and none of the clinic tests have showed any kind of developmental difference in kittens neutered at 2 lbs and kittens neutered at 4-6 months
Yes...cats can become pregnant before 6 months of age. There really isn't a medical reason to wait that long. Many vets now perform pediatric spay/neuter at the 2 lb. weight. The rescue I volunteer with spays/neuters as early as 8 weeks of age.Originally Posted by lionessrampant
