I think the problem with both our companies is that they don't understand the structure, nor know there is supposed to be one!

They just seem to go on is business surviving by good workers and thinking it is all their own doing and that they are the most important people and everyone else is there to be stepped on (and blamed when things go wrong of course)

Thats definately the truth--I get blamed for EVERYTHING!

At one point in time, the owner was talking to my manager about something that had to be done, and he said "Well, tell Mackenzie to do it, she doesn't do anything anyways" Oh let me tell you that made me quite the upset lady! My manager knows how much I do, he just wouldn't correct the owner, thats what gets me, no one stands up for ANYONE around here, so people get blamed (the wrong people!) and then they get in trouble and get crapped on when they are really doing their job and trying to make money for a company that wont do SQUAT for them!!

I know - when we had someone off for 3 months I had to cover her work (she is full time I am part time) so I was doing her 5 days and my 3 in 4 (I agreed to work Saturdays) anyway it comes to year end and I am a few days late with the accounting books (because I was really sick and had worked on them at home as a favour to them and just hadn't been well enough to go back in). This is late in terms of they suddenly decided they wanted them one month earlier than originally agreed on top of me doing the scheduling, billing, A/R etc that the other girl usually does.

Rather than come over to my place (15 mins drive) they called me and said if I didn't have the books back at the office by noon they would call the police! Then they were in a mood with me because no one opened the bills for the week I was off sick and there was a stack of them on my desk when they came in.

I spoke to my manager (their son) and he had some choice words for them as he knew I was really sick (I was actually in hospital when they called my house - I came back to this message) but that is the only time he has ever stuck up for me unless it suits him (as in he wants something done at the same time as them and argues with them that I am busy)

Well that was the end of any favours I do for them!

So I've been working here for over a year now. I walked in and got hired right away and started 2 months later (had to move to the job) so anyways, when I got here, they told me that this office has gone thru 7 girls (yes, 7) in the past 3 years. So I figured I had my work cut out for me, they also told me that the manager up here is very very very un-organized. When I got here there were stacks of papers years old that no one had touched, recent documents not filed, ect. So I busted my butt and got the office organized (I go NUTS if things arent in order!)

So lately, its been really busy here and I've definately learned more than I need to and I'm pretty much the assistant manager of the office here. After my year anniversary of being here, I had asked for a raise and nothing had happened, I haven't even gotten a review yet. So I just kinda blew it off cuz thats how things are delt with around here, no one cares about their employees. So come to find out, I can't get even a $1.00 raise, because our office manager (in the main building-who we think is smuggling $$$$) got a $20,000 raise starting last month - let me tell you, I am furious!!! Whenever I go down to the main office, he is reading the paper, playing in the 'net, and whatever. The 2 girls in the main office pretty much do his job and are getting paid nothing, and management wont give them raises either, and they have been here over 17 years, and the office manager has been here just under a year! How is this even fair? I am so mad right now, they treat their employees here like crap, they really don't care about them at all!!

In my office, its pretty much just me and my manager, but he's always running around somewhere helping customers, and what not. Which leaves me with all the phones, customers, bills, parts, and everything, which is a lot for one person to do! Then I get in trouble when everything isnt done on time, cuz I dont have ANY help what-so-ever! They won't hire anyone to help me in the office when we're busy (can't afford it they say-well no crap, they just gave the office manager a $20,000 raise!!)

UGH...I just dont think I can put up with this hectic place anymore, I don't get any praise for anything around here, and no one cares about their employees, I wish I could find another job but around here its slim pickings, so Im pretty much just here to get the $$ to pay the bills, which barely even does that 1/2 the time!

I'm sorry for just going off but I don't have anyone else to vent to (John works here too and understands, he goes thru the same thing!)
Thanks to anyone who has any advice on what I should do, or who even gave time to reading this lenghtly novel...
I never worked anywhere that I could spend time on the computer unless it was work related.

With my job sometimes there is just nothing to do but sit and wait for the employees to get back with their work orders and answer the phones in which case we can do as we like because we still have to be at our desks. It works both ways though, some days we eat as we work and don't even get a 5 min break in a 10 hour shift.

Thats how it is here too--If I'm all caught up and waiting for customers, its not a problem to be online if I'm slow and stuff. Still, I still think its wrong that he got that, ugh, I am still so upset about that!

So, me and John have worked together since I've been here, and he hates it just as much as me-but-lucky him, has an amazing new job and he has been there for about 2 weeks. He absolutely loves it and he is so glad that he got out of this job! So that's put me in a motivating mood to find myself a new job, but no luck-nothing and I mean NOTHING is hiring around here, its just too depressing!

Things here have been getting worse and worse by the day. I have been swamped and my boss up here, won't help customers while I am busy, he won't answer the phones or anything! When he sees a customer pull up, he will make sure that I know it so he wont have to deal with them!

Friday was terribly busy-I had 6 customers I had to wait on, and he had the NERVE to stand there and watch me, HE WOULDN'T HELP ME!! The phones were ringing (he never once answered them) cuz he was mad that he couldn't leave to go HUNTING earlier in the day! Finally I was so upset that he waited on 1 couple-ugh-and was MAD!!!

I get up in the morning and just dread coming in here, he is the worst boss ever! He has a zero memory-seriously I have to remind him who people are and what they are doing here about a million times a day, and that is so frusterating!! I just want to sit here and cry, what can I do here?

That sounds awful - hopefully you can find a new job soon!

my bosses are the same, a customer will call to speak to them and they will tell us to take a message when 4 other phones are ringing and they ignore them too - then they have the cheek to complain when I give them a list of 30 calls each they have to return because they were too lazy all day!

Do what my boss tells me to do - ignore the phones and pay attention to his dumb questions. YES he actually told me to hang up on a customer because he called and wanted to speak to me right then not when I was done with a customer!

Its amazing these people still have businesses.

Thankfully, its fairly quiet today (only 45 calls so far) and I had to work this weekend so I am fairly caught up and can get ahead so when he gets back tomorrow we can cope with him being a dumbass and do stuff for him without affecting the customers

I agree...I dont understand how they have a business either!!

Today we have been totally swamped and he was mad cuz he didn't get to go HUNTING again today!! Seriously-he is mad when we are slow cuz we don't have anything to do, but when we're busy he gets mad cuz he can't go hunting whenever he wants. Now, what kind of manager is he?

Ugh - glad hes not my boss.

Mine does that - he threatened to fire people because we are slow and don't have enough work, but if the phones ring off the hook all day he will rip the cord from the phone because it annoys him.

And today he got upset because he cancelled a job and the customer's customer called and we told him we couldn't do it until we had sorted out the problem with our customer (anyone guess what the problem is? well his customer did!) and the customer called and told him to pay us so he can get his work done. Which of course (to my boss) means that we called the customer's customer and told him 'so and so won't pay so we are not coming to your job' UGH and of course our customer was upset! Its all our fault for not wording it properly - ummm they only reason we would no do work for a long time customer is an extremely overdue account - so its not that hard to work it out! If he had taken the damn call he could have worded it better and see where it got him!

Thanks for the chance to rant - I feel better now! Seriously we should lock them all in a room so they can realise just how stupid they are!

I need another rant.

I work two part time jobs (the one mentioned and another one I actually like). My contract each year for the job i like renews on Sept 1. Back in Feb the boss at the job I now don't like asked me if i would work full time and I agreed. In July he took on a student that got paid less than me so gave her the extra hours he wanted me to work - no biggie I prefer the other job anyway. So I sign a new one year contract with job 2. Then last week they let the other girl go because she is lazy and wasn't coming in for all her shifts. So Monday he says to me... 'are you going to leave your other job then?' I explained that I couldn't and that we could talk again before Sept comes around. He says 'Oh well then we are going to get someone in full time and all I have to say to you is good luck'.

BUT he wants me to advertise my job, interview the person and train them before he fires me!

If you are sure he is going to fire you anyway, I would just quit. Give him the required notice and look for another part-time job to fill the gap. He doesn't deserve your consideration.

Wow, he wants you to advertise, interview and train them? I wouldn't do that!! Like Yosemite said-he doesn't deserve that!! That is just unbelievable, our bosses sound so much alike, are you sure they aren't related? Mine is gone now til MONDAY....wish I could have those days off like that! Oh, by the way, we are swamped, crazy busy, and he decides to leave...great move smartie.

I am in Canada on a work visa that names my employers and it will take me 3 months to get a new one IF they approve the employer and job. So I am sticking with it and trying to save money for the minimum of 3 months I am going to end up unemployed.

I got in this morning to an empty office, the other full time girl had the flu and they were so awful to her that she went home with no idea of when she is back. That left two estimators int he office so now my fax machine AND copier are broken, there is tonnes of invoicing to do, I have to answer the calls and do payroll today
and on top of all that Mackenzie junxed me with her snow thread and its snowing!

Awww, I'm sorry I jinxed you

You can send the snow this way, I would love to have snow today!

I feel your pain, my boss is gone today, and so is his assistant (gone til noon) so I have NO estimators, and that leaves me to answer phones and do payroll today too....seems like me & you have so much in common!
