I have noticed that one of my female cats (2 yrs old) goes to the litter box frequently and leaves a small amount each time (approx. 1/2 teaspoon). She acts normal and healthly otherwise. Do you think this is a problem? Thanks

I would definitely take her to the vet...this type of behavior could be a sign of a UTI or urinary crystals (or both). Better safe than sorry!

Bladder worms are another option...ecspecially if that is the only symptom..(Heightened urination)......

I would be more willing to bet a UTI or crystal blockage type situation...but I figured I would give you another option to look into.....

Either way you are going to want to go to the vet

Be it a urinary tract infection, instersitial cystitis or crystals, all three require medical attention, meds and two of the 3 require diet change to treat, as well. Time to visit the vet and have a urinalysis (with culture and sensitivity if indicated) done!

Hi - Per eveyone's reply, I took my cat to the vet, and she was given antibiotics for an infection. He was able to extract some urine, which had blood in it. I told the vet what I was feeding her, and he did not recommend a diet change now. He said that I need to watch her, following her antibiiotic treatment, and if this happens again, I will have to change her diet.

Thanks for all of your replys. They prompted me to get her to the vet ASAP.

Good for you, and yup..the one of the 3 possilibilties that I listed that wouldn't necessarily need a diet change was the bladder infection.

Hope she's feeling better soon!
