My 14-year-old happy & healthy cat has suddenly gone nearly blind, and has also shown a sudden and intense interest in the dried flowers on our African violet plant. (Although she has occasionally fooled around with houseplants, we have never seen anything as purposeful and specific as this.) Our vet, who thinks the blindness is probably blood pressure related, tells us that the plant is not toxic, and I wonder if it may contain some chemical or nutritive element that she lacks or needs more of. Do African violets (Gesneriad family) have known or traditional medicinal properties, or are they rich in particular vitamins? Desi is adapting amazingly well, but I can't hep wondering if we could help by locating the natural medicine she seeks... Hissy at FamilyPetServices thought you might have some ideas about this. Thanks for anything you can offer.

I can't really think of any naturaly properties he would be craving. Cats really aren't generally drawn to vegitation rather than just an interest in chewing things. If he is he is loosing vision he may just see it as something different and new. He could also be stressed from the change.
