Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and I was wondering if anyone could help. I have a 6 month old kitten with a URI, she has already been to the vet twice and is on antibiotics, but she is really stuffed up. I have used a vaporizor with her and it seems to help a little, but nothing major. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on haw to make her more comfortable. All help and advice is appreciated!

You could try a more concentrated form of humidity therapy: close the door to the bathroom and run the shower on full hot to build up a room full of steam. Close up the cat in there for 15 minutes. Repeat as needed -- twice a day suggested.

Oh, and if you want to join the kitty in the bathroom, she might like that.

When my kitty had a URI as a baby, the vet told me to put a hot water bottle under a blanket for him, not too hot, but just enough to keep him warm! It give them a nice warm cosy feeling, more for comfort than anything, the warmth makes them feel warm like they are by their mom.

If the congestion is really bad, you can get a bulb suction (the ones that they sell at the baby store to suck out a babies nose) They hate it, but is works to get some of the gunk out. But be gentle.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually starting to come down with a cold, so the idea of running the hot water in the shower and then staying in there for a while might benifit us both! I think I will try the hot water bottle. She might feel more comfortable with some warmth right next to her. I also have been worried that she might be cold so that solves that problem. thanks again!

Plus if you are catching a cold...maybe you both ought to snuggle together under the covers and get cozy!
I hope you are both feeling better soon......and by the way, WELCOME to TCS!

Something else you can do is use nose drops made only of plain saline and drop one drop into each nostril. She won't like this but it will help her to sneeze/huff out all the congestion.
