Thank you, thank you, everyone that has helped me through this journey. I wanted to post on a new thread, I hope that is ok.

Today we took poor little Smudge in because his body just couldn't keep up with his spirit. The entire vet office was crying. We purchased a paw print kit and took his little paw prints and said our good byes. I told him all about Mouse, Butch, Alexander, Belle, Mattie, Jane, and Petunia, and Malcolm, Sassy, and Deagan, our other cats who would all meet him at the bridge.

When the vet came in to give the anesthesia, it only took about 3 seconds for our poor little Smudge to go. He was so ready, and was only holding on because of his love for us and ours for him. It was such a relief to see him finally able to relax, and to know that he's able to see, and run, and be a kitten, like he hasn't been for quite a while.

We love you Smudge, and will never forget you!

Kim I am so sorry- this battle is always so tiring and very rarely does the cat stay the victor over the disease-

You and Smudge will meet again- and it will be a sweet, sweet reunion-

Kim,

So sorry and I'm glad you were able to say goodbye to our little Smudge. May he and you find peace in the coming days and weeks.

I had faith that you would know the time to go and I still believe that you did.

Thank you, Kim. You cannot know how touching this is.

I have shed so many tears for you and Smudge this week! May you find comfort in the love of your other kitties, and your family. Special condolences to your daughter. I know how hard it is on the kids-they seem to have an especially close relationship with these fursiblings.

Kim,

I've been checking for word on Smudge all day. I guess I was hoping for a miracle while anticipating the worst. Just remember that Smudge had the kind of life far too many cats can only dream of. He wasn't just a pet but a cherished member of your family. As all of you were his. I will say a little prayer for you and yours tonight. That the raw edge of grief gives over swiftly to sweet remembrance.

I'm so sorry;
Wendy.

Kim--I am so sorry. I have been faithfully following the story of your sweet baby Smudge. And like everyone, just hoping and praying for a miracle. But as you say, now that gorgeous little boy can see again, and run and play and feel wonderful always. He has left that terrible sickness behind him forever, and for that we can all be grateful. Like I said before--what a beauty he was! Not just his sweet little face and body but his wonderful spirit too. We all know that his sweet spirit will never be extinguished--he is happy and well now, playing with all his new friends over the Bridge, and reminding his mama how much he will always love her and that he will wait for her--and Kim, he definitely knew how very much you loved him--you gave him a wonderful, wonderful life. RIP sweet baby Smudge
In your short stay here on earth you certainly stole a lot of hearts!

I am so, so sorry for your loss. But I too am thinking about Smudge, Jane, Moogle, and all our other Rainbow Bridge kitties frolicing together and watching over us, even as we miss them.

Smudge won't be forgotten.

I can only repeat and add to what everyone has said. You were a wonderful meowmy and family to Smudge. He will be much missed. I feel honored to have been able to help you at this time.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Kim, I'm so incredibly sorry you lost your precious baby. You did absolutely everything you could and were the best Mommy he could have ever had. Smudge loves you so very much and knows just how much you love him. He is in perfect health tonight, playing joyfully in Heaven, and the two of you will one day be reunited. You are in my prayers during your painful time of grief. May God give you peace in you shattered heart.

I read this and immediately thought of Smudge.

Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

So sorry that precious little Smudge had to leave us so soon. Kim, I am praying for you and for your family. I hope that you can take some comfort knowing that you gave him a happy life while he was on earth with us. Now he is free....and waiting to be reunited with you someday. He will be missed by all of us. Hugs.
