Tailer is quite the bug hunter. Which is mostly good...I hate bugs. The problem is that it's almost impossible to keep him from eating them after he catches them. Trust me, the crunching sound is almost worse than facing the bug myself.

Forest WANTS to be a bug hunter, but his tremors keep him from being terribly effective at it. It's really cute to watch him try, though.

Oh ewwwwwww. I hate centipedes too, and pretty much any kind of bug!

Chester is our exterminator, he just loves to catch bugs and eat them. One time he caught a daddy-long-legs, and walked away with it hanging out of his mouth.

Oliver doesn't like to kill bugs, just smush them til they're barely alive. He also likes to pull the legs off of ants.
So, he's a bit troubled, methinks!
And then, I've got a half-smushed bug to deal with!

He was able to kill a few mice when we lived in NY, how ever.

Flies and moths have short lives here. Lucy chases spiders into the middle of the room where DH takes them outside. She always has this look on her face of "why do you want to do that? I was playing with it".

One time I had hurried too quickly in taking the trash out before work so I dropped something. When I came home, there was this trail of ants going to and fro from the dropped garbage, my cat, Petunia (RIP), just sat there by the trail watching them. She did nothing to interrupt their marching. In fact, none of my cats have anything to do with ants.

There was a mouse in our plate cupboard once and I stuck Elmo in there and shut the door. A few seconds later he started meowing his head off. He probably thought the mouse was going to eat him! The big baby!

My babies love to hunt crawly things, but they play with whatever they find before they kill it. And sometimes they need to have the ickies pointed out to them. Generally, tapping my nail on the floor/wall next to the bug is sufficient. They seem to have learned that the tapping indicates something they'll find entertaining. I really hate the cracking sound that spiders and bugs make when I squish them with a paper towel, so I'm always much happier when the babies take care of it for Mommy. Sometimes the bugs are too high on the wall, though, so they just point them out for me. I suppose that I could knock the bugs and spiders onto the floor for the babies to play with, but if I've already gone and grabbed a paper towel, I might as well use it before I throw it out.

I've only seen two bugs actually get away alive because of the playing. And one was really close to the piece of furniture that it hid under by the time Bella noticed it, so I really couldn't have done better myself. Rowan doesn't eat anything that he's killed (which is strange, because he was a stray), but Bella always eats them. If any of the things I've seen around the house were poisonous, I'd probably put a stop to that, but it seems natural enough, and my Meow never got sick from eating things she'd caught.

Geisha and Kuri never kill any bugs, BUT I always know they've found an ant when I see them gathered around staring at the floor together! When I was a kid and there was a huge bug or a fly in the room, my dad would always tell me, "Watch the bug," while he went to go get a fly swatter or bug spray. So now I get a kick out of my kitties because they are like my kids, "watching" the bugs until I can go find something to kill them with!

Willow is a terrible exterminator, but Buffy is a decent one. However, while Willow has no drive to kill and eat bugs, she can follow them around without losing sight of them. Buffy has a BIG drive to kill and eat, but she loses track of the bugs so easily. We've had 5 encounters with moths in the past 6 months, and all of them got away (4 times when Buffy lost sight of it, 1 time when it fell down into the heating vent, because of Buffy pushing it towards it
). So when I see a bug, I automatically go for Buffy, but what I should do is bring both out. Let Willow be the tracker, and then let Buffy perform the killing sacrifice.

I am with you all at hating bugs!! Since i moved into my new house i'm been bombarded with these huge, many legged creatures (has anyone seen these). There legs are all different lengths...they run really fast. Well Rambo lately disappears into the basement for hours and when i go to find him i find the basement littered with twitching carcasses and rambo sits there looking quite proud! That's my boy!

Lucky on the other hand likes to befriend bugs...she will follow them around and then lay down next to them. If they try to wander off she will pull them back with her paw...but she won't kill them, and definitely won't eat them!!

So basically you've got a lover and a fighter.

Oh, and not much puts me off my food, but I think "basement littered with twitching carcasses" just might have done the trick.

Leo is one of the most adept cats I have ever seen or known when it comes to killing bugs (I imagine he'd be god at mice and other rodents, which would have helped with the rat infestation in Ian's old basement, but he's inside only and I don't want him getting near ANY place where rat poison might possibly be). He can literally catch flies in his paws...it's kind of scary. Yet another reason why we call him the Zen Master Kitty! Lola tries her darndest, but she's still going through that akward kitten phase.

sorry about that....but now you know what i go through. I have to remind myself not to go into the basement barefoot!! Especially if rambo comes up licking his lips or looking proud!

I decided to post this picture in this thread too.....i've just discovered what exactly it is that rambo's been having fun with in the basement. Introducing the critter of my nightmares...the house centipede. Anyone else have these guys?

You guys have bugs in your house? I've never seen a bug in our house

Of course we have 12 bengals on 24 hour bug patrol. Bengals are the environmentally safe option to using Raid.

Ack! That's not a bug; that's ... I don't know what it is, but it is wrong on so many levels.

Actually, Leo just ate one of those about 10 minutes ago...

Nial, that's classic...you know how I like to use all-natural, environmentally sound products..I can see it now...go to the natural food store to buy some natural bug bombs, and instead you come upon a Bengal breeder's number

EEK! that's Scary

Since the weather's turned colder we've had 3!! waterbug invasions (the big red flying cockroaches EEE!!) and i'm Deathly afraid of them! Gibby is our Roach chaser, but note I said CHASER, he won't kill the darn things!! Molly is our spider patrol, but since we moved there haven't been that much by the way of spiders. Our old apartment, we couldn't use the porch for all the spiders!

Paige doesn't hunt bugs, it's below her.
