I suppose this is normal, but I'd still like to get some feedback. I just moved a few days ago. When my kitty is with me in my room (which is her primary room with all her stuff) she's fairly relaxed and affectionate and is just starting to play again.

But when she goes into the living room where my roommate are (they're strangers to her) she gets very tense and skittish, hides under beds, and runs away when I try to pet her or pick her up, which is very unusual for her.

She's only ever lived with just me, so I think it's a big adjustment for her. Plus it doesn't help that there's a lot of banging around, putting bookcases together and moving stuff around in the living room.

How long will it take her to completely adjust to her new surroundings and roomates and is there anything I can do to help?

Just leave your rooms door open for her so that she can wander out at her own leisure and make friends with the others as she feels it`s safe to do. If she stays in your room...then that is your cue that she is not ready to venture out yet.
She will eventually when she feels the time is right for her.

It will take time for your cat to feel totally comfortable in the surroundings...and the fact that its always been you two may take even longer....just encourage her/him and comfort her/him.

I'm moving friday into a bigger place...i know it'll take her a few days for her to warm up- but in no time she'll be ruling the place again!

Good luck...just time and patience!
