One of my cats is a wonderful, loving cat at home, both with me and visitors, he's very social and generaly likes people. He gets along OK with the other cats too. He jumps in the carrier willingly and is calm during car rides.

But once he's in the Vet's office he turns into a monster. He'll just barely let me hold him and struggles terribly against any examination by the vet. Most of my other cats have grown more tolerant of vet visits over the years, but he's the opposite and has become harder to handle each year.

Has anyone else gone through something similar and found a solution?

Rescue Remedy made an amazing difference for my cat - http://www.bachflower.com/rescue_remedy.htm - it's available at health food stores for about $15.

My vet said to put one drop on his tongue 15 min before leaving for the vet appt and one drop 15 minutes later. It really helped.

Milla is like that too, the kindest cat alive at home and a total monster at the vets. She is just scared out of her wits.
Next time I'm taking her there, I'm going to take Usva, who she trusts as a protector, along and spray the carrier with Feliway.
