cat just lays around all day.....

Hey all,

I just have a quick question for anybody who can possibly answer it. Last night my cat got outside without me knowing it. I opened the door b/c I thought I heard somebody knocking and she ran out without me noticing it. Well needless to say I went back to sleep until my wife and I were awaken to the sound of a cat cry. It was then that I found out my cat had gotten outside. The only problem with that is there is some stray cats around here and I think she might have got into a scuffle with one. I went outside to look for her but she came in on her own, smelling of something nasty. So I gave her a bath and found a little scrap under her eye, doesn't look like a bite but more like a scrap from her running into a bush maybe b/c I pulled out a little piece of wood from near her eye. Other than that mark near her eye and a sore tail I can't find any visible marks of a bite or anything else like that. But she has layed in the same spot most of the day and I am afraid that something may be wrong with her? Any ideas?

Your cat needs to be checked by the vet. It is possible that she may have a cat bite on the tail. If so, it needs to be tended by the dr. Cat bites can be very nasty and it the tail is affected, it may get infected and abcessed. If that happens she will lose her tail. Take her to the vet as soon as possible and get her checked. I hope all will be okay.

Well, quite possibly ... that's what cats do when they're not feeling well. You say a sore tail? How do you know that? Maybe that's something that should be looked at by a vet.

I know she's got a sore tail because this morning when I was petting her like I always do she hissed at me when I touched her tail. So I think she might have hurt her tail some how. I know I need to take her to the vet but the only problem with that is there is no 24 hr emergency vet clinic around here like they have in bigger cities.

I don't think this is an emergency...I think you can wait until you're able to get to your regular vet. But I do think that tail needs to be looked at...if it's sore, there's a reason why.

Well do, thanks for your concern we are going to take her to the vet in the morning and I will post what the vet says on here. I really do appreciate everybody's advice.

She probably got bit by another cat and rolled in the dirt. Hope she is okay. The tail is one of the first things to get injured in a cat fight, that and under the legs

I agree, take her in when you can!!!

Just wanted to thank all of you for your concern. I am going to take her to the vet first thing in the morning. Hopefully she will have a clean bill of health. I studied to be a vet assistant early out of high school and should have remembered that a cat wound is harder to find than that of one on a person. I hope that she will be fine and maybe one day I can post a pic of her on this site. Thanks everybody and I will keep you all posted .
