A block from me lives and 18 year old male, I think he lives alone, because his house is broken and not in good condition. Anyway one time I saw my stray go there, so I took a trip to his house, and the teenager was outside. I saw him sitting on his front porch petting a few other stray cats, all are very nice, he had calicos, a javanese, and I think a persian, along with american shorthairs! So I asked him if he owned the stray cat, and if it's nice. He said he does not own it, that he CAN pet it, and if I want to find a home for it to go right ahead and do so! So I thanked him and left. I dont want to bother him anymore because I think he is a loner, but at least some cats are being fed. I doubt they are fixed but if I start bugging him about that I dont want to upset him any further than he is already, im sure he has his share of problems. If I can just convince Last Hope to take him/her in then it will find a home!

EXCELLENT!! Good detective work alright!
Sounds like the "owner" does have his own issues, and I'm sure that it would be a real blessing for the other cats to get neutered - I will be praying that you get some guidance on that situation. At least you, with your open heart & mind, are aware of the situation now, so if something (God forbid) happened to that person, you know that he has cats & could alert the authorities. It sounds like a sad situation for the 18yo boy; at least he has the cats for companionship. I hope that Last Hope will take in your stray and help him find his "forever home" before winter sets in. Thanks for the update!! Susan

Bad news, including last hope, NO shelter in Suffolk county will take in the cat.
I got low cost spay/neutering, but for such a nice cat being fixed and having to live in cold weather just isnt going to make his life any better. I hope a miracle happens and wefind a good home for him. Im not giving up so easily!

Keith...please consider at least having him neutered..that WILL improve his life. It will decrease his chance for getting cancer and it will mean that he can no longer add to the overpopulation by mating with intact females. In the end..whether we believe a location is a good location or not...spaying/neutering does improve stray/feral cats lives.

Oh im getting that done, but since he's nice and not feral I want to also find him a home, and not leave him out in the cold. Besides after being fixed and the vaccinations I will no longer be able to afford that ever again, so he needs to be found a home! Along with me, my dad and sister want to keep him, or at least keep him in the house until we find him a home, but my mom said no.
She is so angry about this and keeps saying no, today the poor cat was shivering in the cold.

Then comprimise....have him fixed and then provide him an outdoor shelter until you can find him a home:

The only shelter outside is my garage, but I cant let the cat walk around there mice poison pellets are on the ground in random places, and im not keeping him locked up all day. I just wish my mom would not make things complicated all the time. If from the start she let me keep the cat in the house, it would have become social a long time ago and it would have had a home by now.

Keith...did you open the links I provided?? These are shelters that you can build inexpensively for an outdoors cat. It should provide him with a warm place during this cold winter.

Ok you do not need mouse poison and a cat. Would your Mom let you sweep out all the poison from the garage and let the cat go in there? It would catch the mice.

I agree with that
The cat would definitely be a mouse-control solution. But an outdoor shelter would work, too. There are different pads that can be place in the shelter to help keep kitty warm. However, the really economical thing would be to let him sleep on your bed - cats really keep you much warmer, which saves on the electricity running the electric blanket

I'm curious as to why your mom is so against the cat, when the rest of the family wants him. Sounds like there might be an undercurrent of tension going on. {{{Prayers & vibes}}} that your mom has a change of heart soon! Thank you for keeping us posted.
P.S. You might try looking up www.alleycatallies.org

Oh we got rid of the mouse poison bags a long time ago, we felt bad that the mice died, and besides we havent seen any in 3 years! The problem is I cant get to all of the areas where some poison spilt years ago because im too big, but a cat could easily get to that area of the garage . It's hard to clean unless I use a vaccum, but we only have one and we dont want to use it to clean up poison. My mom simply does not want any more cats in the house, she has no reason other than I must listen to her or move out.

This may help: for the past few years, this dog-house has been sheltering a small colony of 5 adults.

Purchased from Pet Supplies Plus and wasn't too expensive. Inside it is lined with a mylar blanket, lounge cushions and of course, my flannel king size comforter (an old one). The large towel drapes down and adults & kittens have no problem (fear) of going in & out. A feeding station is close by so in bad weather, they have 2-3 feet to go for their next meal.
