I have owned both the Petmate and the Drinkwell. I currently use the Drinkwell, because my cats like the faucet-like stream of water.

You know, I`ve heard these mentioned before on TCS....just how do they work? I mean, do they just circulate the same water...or are they hooked up to a fresh supplu with a faucet???

I use drinkwell, and I have the additional 6 cup reservoir. My cats love it, and so do I!

It has a electric pump that circulates the water through a carbon filter.

And what...the filter keeps cleaning the water then? Is that the idea?
I`d thought that maybe it had a way to bring in constant fresh water...or is the filter as good as fresh?

I've got the Petmate Freshflow. My Ophelia loves it! But it did take her a while to get used to the noise that it makes (which isn't much, but she's a very particular kitty!). Trent prefers his same ol' bowl that we've used since they were kittens. He's not good with change.

We had a Drinkwell & a CatIt fountain & when the pump went bad on the Drinkwell, I replaced it with another CatIt. I prefer the CatIt & so do the cats... they used it more than the Drinkwell.

I ordered both of mine from www.PetFoodDirect. They have it for a good price & I always use a coupon when I order.

We have the CatIt here too, and Clinton loves how it keeps the water cool. It's easy enought to clean and refill, I just get concerned because the adaptor gets really warm.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Sierra and Serenity received their second Drinkwell just last week. Both of them love it. Serenity is such a fountain drinker! She has had her Drinkwell since she first adopted us, so drinking from a fountain is what she's used to doing. I had to keep reminding Sierra to drink water between the other one breaking and this one arriving because she doesn't drink as much without the Drinkwell.

I use only bottled Spring Water in the Drinkwell, our beach water is awful here. The filter does a lovely job keeping the water clean and clear. Upkeep is simple and mandatory for the efficiency and prolonged life of the unit.

My girls and I by far recommend the Drinkwell!

I would love to get a fountain for my cats but the thought of them drinkingout of bowl that is plugged into an electrical outlet makes me nervous. Do they have any safety features built in?

The Freshflow uses a power converter that plugs into the wall so the pump and exposed wire are low-voltage only.

The CatIthas a plastic covering over the wire to stop pets chewing the exposed wire and to make sure the part of the wire on the floor does not get wet or rub against the base of the dome (the blue part in the pic). The CatIt also is low voltage.

Does the Catit have water coming down like a fountain? My Panther keeps hopping up on the sinks and insisting I turn on the cold water for him, but he is not overly interested in the drinkwell.

No, with the Cat-It the water runs over the dome and then into the water tray below. There's no running water like out of a faucet.

I've been thinking about getting a waterer for my kitties as well, since the water tends to get stale and always has lint in it by the time I get home from work. And the kitties love to drink out of the bathtub faucet or around the drain. I just wasn't sure which one we should buy. Plus, the only one they offer at the pet store is one that costs $55! Pretty steep if it doesn't work and I can't return it.

Anyway, reading all these posts has talked me into getting the Catit drinking fountain! I just ordered it!! So by next week, Geisha and Kuri will probably be loving their water bowl (or rather, fountain)!
