Hi,
My newly adopted one-year-old cat is peeing, but not pooping. She has only pooped some HUGE poops on Wednesday, and now it is Saturday. I gave her some canned pumpkin tonight with her food (she is on raw twice daily) and she ate it all. I am quite concerned and going to take her to the vet tomorrow if she doesn't poop tonite or tomorrow AM.

Will the canned pumpkin work that fast? I'm so scared for her.....She is peeing normally, playing and eating fine and otherwise acting normal except for wierd meows that I attributed to the newness of her situation, but now I'm thinking it might be the constipation.

I know you all are going to tell me to get her to the vet right away, and I'm going to, but could you just give me some comforting words at least?
thanks

When my cat was constipated (he was having some stools, but they didn't pass easily), the pumpkin did help quite a bit. If your kitty continues to struggle, definitely get her to a vet (make sure to tell the vet that you gave her pumpkin). Pumpkin can also be used as a maintenance thing. Also, if you have any hairball medicine, like Laxatone or Petromalt, you can give your kitty some of that to help easy things along. Good luck!

Is your kitty long-haired? Is it possible she is pooping elsewhere and you just haven't found it yet? You can place her in a small bathroom and see if she poops and pees after eating. Does she have two littler pans not just one? Are you using regular litter, nothing scented or fancy?

She is not long haired...she is medium haired I would say.
Nope, she isn't pooping anywhere else, I have checked. She is peeing in her litterbox normally.
I am using the same litter that she was using in her foster home - pine thingies.
I have one litter box and a studio apartment.

add a second litter pan. if you don't have one on hand improvise with something you do have. it is unnatural for a cat to pee and poop in the same place.

Well, I improvised and put a second pan near the first one and showed her. She gets it, but it's 4 pm Sunday and she still hasn't pooped. I don't get it. I added a little pumpkin to her food last night and this morning, and I will add some tonight. tomorrow I will call the vet. I just don't understand......
