Well Robert just got enlisted and sworn into the army today. He will be in Georga for training and after that washington or Hawaii. He will be paid $1,400 every month and he qualified for $20,000 sign up bonus. I'm sad cause we have to give up some of our cats we have. We have a bit to many. I'm so nervous and happy.

I have to ask - you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but $1,400 a month does not seem like much money for someone willing to put their life on the line for their country.

Why do you have to give up your cats? My husband also just enlisted and is going away to basic soon and we plan on moving with all seven of our cats and two of our dogs. $1400 a month is about what my husband will make starting out as well but then that doesn't include the housing allowance we will get.

Well if you look at it a certain way, your housing, bills, food are all paid for. Medical is free and after boot camp he gets more money. Every year you get a 3% or more raise.

I have a total of 13 cats, some im not suppose to have, 3 dogs , and 2 rats

On that meager income you have way to many animals and should be rehoming them quickly.

Hey~

I live in Hawaii, and I can warn you now that even with your basic needs provided for, you will find it difficult due to extremely high cost of living. Definitely a good idea to find homes for many of your pets, though I'm very sorry that you will have to part with them.

HI too has such a housing shortage that most rental agencies and landlords have strict no-pet policies. I'm currently hunting for a pet-friendly apartment, and they are $1400/month and up for a 1BR in Honolulu (you will probably be able to find something SLIGHTLY cheaper since you can live outside the city itself).

G/l--not trying to discourage you, only trying to warn you about the challenges in case you end up in Hawaii so that you are better prepared and it isn't as much of a financial shock.

If you check out the rental listings on Craigslist, it will give you a good idea of what you up against as far as housing...

The people at MEPs made a mistake on the numbers for the states, we will be stationed in Kansas state instead. Thats better since its only 627 miles away from here and about 13 hour drive, so Im happy with that.

Really? I spend about $50 - $60 a month on just my two cats!

ive lost count on how much i spend on my kitties, but since i have two now its quiet expensive!

i spend 8 euros on cat litter a week, 6 euros of wet food and about another 6 euros a week of dried food.
dont forget the treats and toys
