How do you tell if your cat has a fever? I have never known this. Just wanted to know in case of emergency.

Checking the temperature with a thermometer is the best way. But a cat with a fever will also have warm ears. What's normal warm and what's fever warm is open to interpretation, and an inexperienced person probably isn't suited to judge. If you think your cat is running a fever and you can't take the temperature, it's best to take the cat to a vet.

A cat's temp can only be taken rectally...you need to make sure you use lube...

between 101 F - 102.5 F is a normal range temp for an adult cat

There are electronic digital ear thermometers that are calibrated to be just as accurate as a rectal thermometer. In fact, I've never seen a vet use a rectal thermometer any more. They all use ear thermometers. Much faster, cleaner, less hassle from the cat. They're available online, but not cheap, about $70 for one I looked at last year.

Really?! They sound way better. Too bad my vet doesn't have one.

When you're in school you have to learn how to do it the hard way. When you get out and get a job, then you can do it the easy way!!
