Someone, probably Jack, has been peeing right outside the litterboxes. I can't separate my boxes like most people can. I'm in a 1 bedroom apt, have two open boxes bext to each other (the space lends itself naturally to litterboxes being there), and then I just refilled the sole covered box a couple days ago and placed it at the other end of the bathroom, in the linen closet. With JoJo's throwing litter issue, I intend to get covered boxes to replace the two open ones ASAP, but I don't know if it'll resolve Jack's peeing problem. It seems a lot of people have some form of peeing issue.

I've read the locked thread about peeing... will make an appt for them with the vet. (wish there were at least two vet offices withint walking distance... the one is REALLY expensive)

This is Jack's deal: no matter how much I clean up, using proper cleaners and such, Jack (assuming it's him, since he's such a bada**) pees right in front of the open boxes. I'm cleaning them more often than i used to (BAD kitty mom back then. I hate cleaning those boxes... still do, but i get them more often), but he still does it. Yesterday I went through the whole deal of cleaning the linoleum, the fronts and undersides of both boxes... with the cleaner. then I wiped the linoleum down with a damp (water) paper towel to minimize the scent of the cleaner (still want them to use the boxes). I laid down a strip of paper towels last night, in front of the boxes... where he's been 'going,' sure enough, this morning it's crumpled and yellow. and damp. Maybe I should change his nickname from the Little S**t to the Little Pi***r.

While i was reading the ohter threads, a thought occured to me. I have one of those Glade Plugins in the bathroom... Could the scents from that thing be what's bugging him?

I'll call the vet. Buy new boxes. And seeing my vet bills from here is the reason my dad thinks taking his cat to the vet is too expensive.

Any suggestions?

I`m sorry...I don`t really have an answer for you as I have not had this problem as of yet with my cats. I`m sure you are feeling very frustrated.
I don`t know about the Glade thingy....but I`d sure remove it to see if it makes a diff.
Frist I`d get your kitty checked out. I do know that males can have problems with unrination when they get a bit older.....my sister had this prob with one of hers afew weeks ago. The vet put him on meds, she cleaned up with some kind of cleaner the vet sold her...and she has not had any reoccurance since.
I hope you find the prob and get it solved soon.

JoJo's 3 and a half and Jack is 3. They're not terribly old.

I'm going to do a box change and whatnot. SInce my vet isn't affordable, I'd rather try 'home remedies' first. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to get to a Petsmart before Sunday. I have a job interview this afternoon, and a 'small stuff' moving guy tomorrow afternoon. (Tomorrow morning is reserved for meeting a potential new addition to the already dysfunctional family. Another small and furry, but the same age as JoJo... so their energy levels should all match decently. She's told me i'm under no obligation to take him. We'll have to see.) Busy weekend already! (That reminds me, i should bake the gingerbread this morning... movie night tonight. Chicken Enchiladas for dinner and gingerbread for dessert.)

I've moved the glade plugin thingy. Maybe that'll help some.

Just a thought: Put the problem kitty into the litter box. Praise him, pet him.. try to hold him in there for a while--as gently as possible-- speaking to him in a soothing loving voice--

Allow him to leave and repeat the process a few times per day.. It may help him to realize that its ok to go in the box... he needs to feel comfortable..

So far today nothing outside the boxes... which is a good sign. If we make it trhough the night without a goof, then I think we'll be okay. If it continues, I'll have a little 'chat' with my bad boy.

I have extreme doubts it's JoJo, considering I hear her "diggin' to China" in there. I may invest in a couple Booda Domes... depends on their size though... I'd have to figure out how to configure them if they don't fit side by side in the space. Whenever I see them in the stores, they just seem huge to me. We shall see.
