Is bread okay for cats or kittens?
My dad is giving the kittens a slice of white soft bread to eat.
Is that okay?

Sierra loves bread, and she gets a little pinch as a treat whenever I have bread. Kittens require certain nutrients in their diet, and this should by no means replace the kitten food designed specifically for them or even be allowed to fill them such that they aren't hungry for their own food. A tiny pinch is ok occasionally, a slice, on the other hand, is not.

I don`t "feed" my cats bread....although Tedy does get a small bite of whole wheat whenever we have a sandwich.....it`s that or listen to him crying the entire time we are eating! (He won`t touch white...so at least he has "good taste" in breads)
Also have to put the bag of bread and buns up as soon as we get home from the grocery too...or he`ll zero in on that bag and try to help himself. We`ve had more than 1 bag torn open by him!

White bread has no nutrients at all for cats, and no roughage either. So I would only give htem whole wheat, and only a little occasionally. Some like it, some don't.

I eat mostly wheat bread, which Katie and Gracie love, so they occasionally get a little pinch as a treat.

I have heard that cats who are fed bread will rip into the packages for more. So I don't want to get them started! Also, feeding a kitten a slice a bread is like giving a baby potato chips. I would say stick with the kitten food for now, and when they are 4-6 months old its ok to start them on treats!

Spike likes bread, but he doesn't get to have it. (He used to "steal" groceries at our old house, because our roommates would leave them lying on the floor or on the counters despite knowing that Spike was a thief.) I don't feed my cats "human food" because they don't need it, and because I'm not 100% sure what sorts of things might end up being harmful--why take the risk? Besides, my boys get spoiled in plenty of other ways! (Apparently, my boyfriend and I have "sucker for cats" written on our foreheads.)

I thought Prego was the only cat who did this! He loves bread, and will try to steal anything he can.

Luci sometimes takes it into his head to want to eat random bits of human food--if I let him, 'course. So as far as bread-stuff goes, on occasion he'll munch on a piece of bread or waffle or something.

But he knows better than to rip up the bag of bread, and he doesn't react badly.

Cleopatra (Cleo) will eat anything and everything...unless it's healthy (tomato, lettuce, olives, carrots, pineapple etc.). She always eats her kitten food (so at least she's not addicted to people food), but when she meows, I swear she looks at me with her Cleopatra cuttie potootie eyes, and it's over. She's getting offered a little of whatever I'm eating. She loves french bread with a super small slab of butter (not that nasty It Doesn't Even Taste Like Butter Stuff). I have been giving her two quarter size pieces a day for about the past month, and I have observed nothing abnormal. She's about 6 months old, so she plays 24/7. I'm guessing that's why she isn't fat.
