Alicia, usually there's an underlying cause to miliary dermatitis. There are a few cases that are of unknown origin. I have never in my life heard anything about being common in neutered males. It's actually just a term to describe the condition of the skin. Usual causes are flea allergies, diet allergies, inhaled allergies, parasites or fungus. If you can get down to the cause of the dermatitis, you can eliminate the use of drugs to clear it up.

My cat Elvis has miliary dermatitis. The vet says that this can be common in neutered males. The vet gave us Ovarid 5 mg for him. He takes them for a few weeks and the dermatitis clears up but as soon as we stop them it flares up again. We're really worried that the poor baby is going to be taking these for the rest of his life
.

I just wondered if there was any thing else we could give him - something natural, homeopathic or something. I just don't like the idea of him having to be on hormone pills constantly. Obviously though if he has to take them then we'll continue giving them to him. I just wondered if there was an alternative.

Any ideas?
