Hi,
I don't know if anyone can help me but if I can get a few suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Well I just adopted a 10 week old kitten, his name is Terry "Spock" Fox, and he is a fantastic little baby
There is only one problem it seems that no matter what is going on he stops waht he is doing and just decides to cry, meow, or scream. My bpyfriend and I can't figure out what the problem could be. He will be playing happily forever and then he just starts his noise.
We give him attention but I know that if you give it to him everytime he cries he will never stop but even with the attention he doesn't stop sometimes. The pet shop said he had just been to the vet for his last shot so i assume everything is okay with him health wise. He is eating going to the bathroom and running around like normal.
He was really bad at night but now he sems to be getting a little better once we established where he likes to sleep, although he has figured out how to sneak up on to the bed and nicely stick his bum in my boyfriends face before falling right back to sleep.
I just wish I knew what was making him meow the way he does, I worry that the neighbors will think I am abusing my poor terry.

So can anybody help me???

OK. Well he probably has not had the greatest life coming from a pet shop. Still take him to the vet they may not have told you the truth. He could just not be used to his new enviroment as he was probably in some sort of pen from what I have heard about pet shops.

Good Luck!

I would take him to the vet, no way would I trust what a pet shop says unless they give me the records to prove he had been there. Plus, how old is he?

I was actually very suprised with how they were with him, they are a tiny pet shop that took in these kittens. I have the paper work that proves he has been to the vet and when i need to give him his next shot ect. They were in a large cage about the size of one corner of a room. Right in front of the window but they were let out to lpay and frolic whenever the birds were back in there cages. I spent alot of time going to the shop to make sure I wasn't going to have one of those typical pet shop experiences.

You should take him to the vet to just get him a check-up to make sure he is ok healthwise. Pet shops aren't the best places to get kittens. How long have you had him? Does he have plenty of toys? I don't agree with ignorning him and he will stop meowing. I always give my cats attention when they wanted. Maybe he was just cooped up in a cage at the petstore so long he is just so happy to have someone that can give him attention and play with him. Is he eating and drinking ok and going to the bathroom??

Congrats on your new kitty. They are LOTS of fun. They do tend to keep you up at night though since they are nocturnal (sp?)...

I just had one of my foster kittens adopted out that never stopped meowing. He meowed all day every day (at me) no matter what he was doing and he was in perfect health. He meowed while I petted him, while I played with him, while I was sleeping, while I was watching TV, he would just look at me and meow and purr. I thought it was cute even though I didn't sleep for the month that I had him since he slept on my face and purred so loud it kept me up!

Not to scare you, but sometimes excessive meowing can be signal that something is wrong...obviously not a HUGE emergency, but I would suggest that you get him to a vet and make sure the vet puts a stethescope to his chest.

IMO, although it seems like the store you got him from was good, I'd always want a look over by my own vet too. Just to be safe. Sometimes people (busy vets too) will "cheap out" on a kitten exam because the cat "looks fine."

Your new kitten may just be lonely. He probably had other kittens with him and he may just miss his roommates. He may also need time to adjust.
I hope things get better. I just adopted my second kitten (12 weeks old Ello) to keep my other cat company. Kittens are so much fun! Emily

Well I have had some more time to observe My little Terry and he seems to be meowing obsessivly only when I get home from work and in the morning when either my boyfriend and I have gotten up to get ready for work. So maybe it's a lonley thing he was with his brother and now he is alone for part of the day.

He has figured out how to jump up on the bed when we are asleep and snuggle his way inbetween us. He only does this once were both asleep
. Sneaky little bugger. I just hope one of us doesn't roll over not knowing he is there.
I was trying to ot let him sleep on the bed due to slight allergies but I guess he decided that wasn't going to work for him.

Thank you all for advice, I guess it's just a matter of time and he will be less "vocal"
Mel
