last night, just when i thought that kitten season was long gone, i walked up to my house, admiring the full, bright moon, when a dark, tiny ball which seemed to be moving on a cinderblock caught my eye. i looked at it for a bit, and very soon it started to unwind a bit. i was not sure what it was at all, and did not want to fall for a well-played trick from a creature i could barely see, so i kept watching to make sure. it was not until it stuck out a tiny white-toed paw the sixe of my thumb that i realized it was a kitten. it was very weak, and obviously cold, but purred the second i picked it up. it was frighteningly bony, and barely the size of my paw. i could feel many of its bones, and its belly was lumpy. i rushed it into the spare room and put it in the pet carrier with food, water, and a tiny litterbox . it is a tiny longhaired tuxedo kitten, no more than 3 or 4 weeks old. it's eyes, though they will obviously be big yellow ones, still have the blue tint to them. i think i missed hand-feeding by a small window. i think it is a male (i cheched after i fed him, and he had enough energy to wiggle then
). my main concern right now is his tummy. it is big and lumpy, and it is obviously not from food. at his young age, is there anyway to alleviate his obvious worm problem? in my research, it said 8 weeks minimal on worming and shots on about every site i went to.

Take the tiny one to the vet. That is the safest and best thing to do in this scenario.

he's got an appointment, as he is a bit too tiny for meds right now. I think he was mostly bloated from starvation, because in the three days of me feeding him, his belly has gotten much softer and is getting smaller (he no longer looks like a tiny pregnant kitty), and he has lots of energy, although he still does nothing noisewise but purr.

Oh that is good news. We'll be waiting daily for updates on this little fellow. Bless you for taking him in.

He is doing far better now. He had worms, was starving, and had a very bad case of earmites...and a brother who showed up a block away on the same night. He is far better now, and enjoys playing with the other cats. The intro went great (exactly 2 days, no hissing, growling, or agression of any kind), and he's settled in very well. Now I am trying to think of what to name him.

Oh goodness, how cute!

From his face he looks much older than 4 weeks old to me. He doesn't seem to have the round baby face or baby fur and his eye color is fully developed. I would guess more like 7 weeks at least. What did the vet say?

Strongid is a dewormer that is safe to use on kittens as young as 2 weeks old, so if you have a tiny baby you can ask the vet for that. If the intestines feel "lumpy", it means they are very irritated and he is probably not absorbing food as well as he should, so it is important to treat the problem as quickly as possible.

That photo was taken at 7 weeks
. He's 8 weeks now, and I got him his shots, flea treatment, earmite treatment, and worming. He's doubled in energy now, and after 2 days of feeding alone, his belly was no longer hard. His coat looks better, and he feels very silky now. He's also growing normally.I believe he will be fine, and he already looks like he better than before.

He's doing splendidly. He's a shiny little squeaky ball of energy. I've named him Mister Mustache, because he has a totally black face except for a white line right along his upper lip.
