I am having a difficult time introducing a new kitten (Snickers), male ,to my older 3yr old (Keiko), also male. We have had our new kitty for a week and are up to the stage of short durations of supervised contact, but Keiko wants to mate with our new male kitten. Is this normal and how do I discourage this behavior!!! The kitten is not nutered yet only 10 weeks old and the older cat has been nutered. Shawnvc

Sounds like its a dominance issue. Keiko is asserting that he is top dog (err, top cat) of your household. Im pretty sure there isnt anything that you are going to be able to do to discourage the behavior. Im sure there is some great information somewhere on this website pertaining to new cat introductions, but I dont have a link for you.

Lets say it is pretty normal behavior in cats. If he isnt too violent or way too excessive you dont need to do anything. Let them establish their order.

If you cant stand the sight you take him off very gently with a hand, simply push gently aside. Dont shout, dont punish if he isnt violent.

Establishing the ladder is also to say the younger one IS accepted. Snickers is no longer a enemy who must be made to run off...
