Lucifer is usually a very good problemsolver. Here are my four favorite incidents. I've never been sure if the last one was a damned lucky accident or a stroke of cat-genius, but either way I'm listing it.
a) The dog chased him once into the kitchen. Being trapped in a dead end and having nowhere to run to anymore, Luci popped open the cabinet door next to himself and jumped inside, hiding under the sink. The dog couldn't for the life of herself figure out what happened to the cat and was sniffing all around for some time before giving up.
b) Several times he's watched me eating something I know he likes eating too, and suddenly gone off to cause trouble in my line of sight. When I get up and walk over to stop him, he suddenly runs to my food and snags some before I can get back and protect it.
c) I used to let him play with spare paper clips. So one day I couldn't find any and he kept walking on the desk mrring, but obviously I wasn't giving him them. He finally took it upon himself to scatter the papers on it, and upon finding a stack clipped together, put his paws on the stack and pulled the clip off with his teeth. Then played with it while I scowled because I had no idea what order everything had been in.
d) I used to tease him by hiding a toy under a flapless box, right in front of him. He would push it around and around because we have a hardwood floor, and never quite manage to turn the box over. One day, after another frustrating session of this, he sat up, went into the other room, and bothered the dog. When the dog came chasing after, he beelined for the box and jumped over it at the last second. Dog crashed into box, overturning it and falling all over herself. When the dog went back into the other room right afterwards, Luci came out from hiding and claimed the newly-freed toy. (He then sat in the box, but that's probably just because he likes them so much! Haha.)
