So i said something to my mom about my idea for raising money for cricket....and she told one of her friends at work....the first thing the lady says is that we should just put cricket to sleep and spend the money on getting a new dog. i understand most people do not get the emotional attachment that i have with my pets but it is annoying that people can treat something that lives and breaths like an object. Its a good thing that i dont work with her.....i would of been fired.....

I would be FUMING if someone told me that!! My friend's cat(Rena in my sig) is 15 years old so of course she's slowed down a bit but is still living. Someone told her that since she is slowing down that my friend should put her to sleep!! My friend punched him right in the face and walked off!

It ticks me off so much when people put their pets to sleep just because of a little sickness!! We had to put my dog Sandy to sleep because he had cancer that's a bit big don't you think? But people put their pets to sleep all because of a small sickness like "A little cold" it just really frusturates me!! That stuff can be cured! Cancer can't!

That is hard for me to understand too. My cats are members of this family. I guess some folks just don't get attached to their animals.

We used to have a puppy named Callie, and she lived to be 15 years old, but we ended up having to put her to sleep because she was going deaf and blind, she would run into the walls in our house and everything, it was so sad to see her suffer like that
We had gotten her when I was just a baby, I was about 3 years old, so 15 years we had her....some people didn't understand why I cried over it, DUH, its like a family member!

We couldn't even think about replacing her up until 2 years ago (we put her to sleep 4 years ago). Losing a pet is very hard.. I hate people who have no compassion for pets, their living too!

That would make me mad too. It baffles me when people act as if animals are so inferior to humans. Would she suggest putting a sick baby to sleep? I don't understand how people can consider their selves so much more important than animals. I mean, there are certain situations in which logic would dictate that humans come first, but I can't imagine thinking so little of animals that ending their lives would be considered a trivial decision.
I understand that's what they were taught, but I don't understand how an adult could look into the eyes of any living being and think its life is that meaningless.

these are the kind of people who shouldn't have pets at all, the ones for whom anything other than basic care is too much. when Mouse was sick, i did decide, after the 2nd vet, that i was going to have to plan how much i could spend on her, because there is just a limit to how much money i have. but she was VERY sick - not just a minor, treatable, curable problem. i made the decision, then, thankfully, was spared having to act on it when she decided it was time to go herself.

the shock of what she said is more because of the fact that Cricket isnt in pain either, the bladderstones caused an infection so she is on antibiotics but other than that she is still playing with our kitten and going outside, she eats like crazy. She is acting as she always has. it was most insensitive to the fact that she isnt going to die or anything, and that i should put her to sleep and spend money on getting a new dog. because i can just replace her....oh im still annoyed....lol i'll be over it in a week.

Goodness me that is disgraceful! Some people have no idea, do they?

I can't understand people that don't get emotionally involved with their pets - if you're not going to love them, why get them? They're family members, as far as I'm concerned.

Since Max and I have decided not to have children, our pets are our lives!

What did your Mum say to her?
