That is heartbreking for you I`m sure, to be able to actually see the tumor growing on your beautiful baby....it`s probably harder on you than it is her at this point, as she does`nt "KNOW". I really am so sorry that this is happening.....but she knows that she is loved and that you will always do what is best for her.

Thanks for the continued vibes, prayers and hugs for Roo

I can't get Roo to eat more than a few bites today.
I think the tumor is affecting her sense of smell, her nose has been sounding stuffy since it showed up.

She acts like she wants to eat,but acts like she can't smell what I give her. I have tried cat food (also warmed it to increase the smell), chicken, scrambled egg which she usually eats when she won't eat. Whatever I give her, she takes a bite and then leaves it.
She did drink a little cat milk, but that is not nearly any calories at all.
I'll have to go and buy a jar of baby food meat, she's been eating that ok, but I used the last jar yesterday.


If anyone has any ideas on what I can give her to eat that she can smell, please let me know your thoughts.

Have you seen this website from someone whose cat had a brain tumor. http://home.earthlink.net/~ldills/
It talks about radiation and surgery. I know you said she seems fragile but maybe she could make it through.
My thoughts are with you. I hope you can get her to eat.

Hi Diane....It`s Tues. am...this is the first i`ve seen this latest post. I`m sorry that Roo is not doing better.....I sure hope that she is`nt suffering pain along with lack of appetite.You must be on the verge of tears all the time....but your love for Roo will guide you through this next period of time with her.
I don`t think this will help you much with Roo....as neither of these things are really something you`d want to ordinarily feed a cat....but if cats are possibly anything like humans....then if the tumor is affecting the part of her brain that has to do with smell, then maybe something that tastes salty or sweet will intice her to eat. (Although I`m not sure the same is true with cats.....but a few years ago my daughter had a head injury and that , (or the surgery required to stop the swelling, ) left her with no sense of smell/taste . She can tell if something is salty or sweet, and of course temp and texture, but can`t distinquish between flavors. (I.E. frosting will be sweet and so will pineapple...but she can`t tell what flavor)
If there is anything you can think of to try from that info....then I do hope it will help.
PLEASE know that you and Roo continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Diane, have you tried sprinkling bonito (aka dried tuna flakes or Kitty Kaviar) on Roo's food to make it more appealing for her? Roo, please eat for your Mommy, little girl!

Thanks for the vibes everyone! Roo had me so scared last night but she is eating this morning!
My girl can't afford to lose any more weight, she was only 6 pounds at the vet the other week.

that she continues to eat through the rest of today.

I hope her appetite keeps up. Has the vet offered you some cans of a/d to give her? It's a high-calorie canned diet, with a texture similar to baby food. It smells pretty strong and might help stimulate her appetite. Perhaps you could ask the vet about it?

I have talked about that with her vet and she strongly advised against either.

Thanks Tuxedokitties, I hadn't thought of that. I will ask the vet about it next time she is off her food.
